Someone pointed earlier that JPEGs were like MP3s: who cares about the quality when you can't see the difference and when the file is ten times smaller...
The average family (who has bought his computer with WinXP preinstalled) doesn't care about quality, they just want "something" to keep for the future, not 2560x2048 PNG 50Mo file with alpha layer.
OTOH, with HD size increasing, families may switch to PNG, but public servers would need a lot of money to buy more bandwidth and HD, and that's very unlikely to happen soon...
That's the funny part: IANAL but I've read it's forbidden to record the stream you're listening to.
It's legal as long as the radios are paying a fee to the musicians (or their producers) and the streams are not kept (in files) on the computer.
When you connect to a Shoutcast station, the server sends you a buffer of the music being played, and IIRC stream rippers just make a lot of fake connections to have the whole song by appending these buffers, that's why the quality should be the same.
What bothers me is that the program StationRipper claims it can record up to 300 streams at one time, when a usual 512k DSL connection is limited to 4 CD quality streams (128k mp3)...
Completely off-topic but my Siemens S35 has the wonderful ability to interfere with my speakers AND my monitor when a call is incoming. Strange thing is the phone never interferes when it's emitting (instead of receiving)... /me remembers electromagnetism lessons at the university!
You're right about 128kbps encoded Vorbis files, but 64kbps Vorbis sounds almost as good as 128kbps MP3! Which means you can have twice more files for the same quality.
This kind of player has usually 64Mo (128Mo if you're lucky) so you should better forget it... I'd rather buy a portable CD player which could play CDRs filled with mp3 if I were you (and the CD player is really cheaper).
It seems the Wikipedia has been doing this for a long time: you click on an article link and all the spaces and weird letters are turned into RFC compliant strings by the web browser...

If I were the preacher, I would be more scared about how much script kiddies would come to deface this virtual church. I really hope he is aware of what can happen on the Internet these days...
Isn't this kind of licence forbidden by the law? IANAL but I've read that in France, every source code written (with VC++ for example) and every binaries produced through compilation belonged exclusively to you (the programmer)...
Most albums you listen to have 0-1 decent songs on them. Almost all my CDs are filled with great songs. And I've found that these "hidden songs" could be better than the famous one heard on the radio.
I really think it's time for people to listen to music instead of just buying it...
pigeon-based satellite technology will work by catapulting the pigeon to the sky and
ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) technology will work by chopping the pigeon into small rounds and throwing it in the air, hoping the wind will carry it to its destination.
Yeah!! French invasion!! Let's kick the americans out of/.!

IIRC.
And I'm surprised they don't have built-in Unicode support! They could make more money with books from all over the world.

DOWNLOAD right now the new UCLA Approved Kazaa Client! (with very strong XOR encryption inside!)
note to the students: the xor key will be changed on a daily basis and written on the wall of the cantina toilets...

The Chinese people PUT their Goverment in Power PERIOD
Are you sure OUR governments have really done nothing to help those dictatures?
WHY Should I care in the least about censorship in China ?
Because it will come to our countries sooner than we may think!

I think not. We would come out with 97% of: CowboyNeal prefers the new Nokia N-Gage.
I first thought about blind people who don't have an easy access to audio books (but of course, the entertaining part of this project is good too).
I can't! This damned site told me I was blocking cookies... I'll /. them anyway!
