"evolution" and "kdepim" are outlook-like applications. while evolution tries to handle mail too, kdepim leaves this stuff to kmail. I was expecting someone to comment about these tools.
Nice. Piquepaille avoids (for obvious reasons) talking about its main attractive: The $400 yo-yo is a very special yo-yo. Its ability to be remote-controlled and its anti-gravity features make it a great sex toy. While designed to retrieve the most delightful pleasures from any and every one of you, nerds, it just won't work for sex-gurus and porn-stars. So stop jerking off with autopr0n and run to buy your yo-yo! Choose your favourite fizzy flavours: win95 or linux!
Maybe Microsoft just shut up its mouth. Maybe they are not telling us whenever they get compromised.
Do any of you expect Microsoft announcing
"err... our windows update site have been compromised. please expect some trojans for some weeks".
(joke)"please run windowsupdate.com to apply a patch to avoid the trojans".
Knowing the way Microsoft deals with vulnerabilities in its software, same or worst policy must apply to this kind of issue on its servers. I think so.
It's pretty public domain that some people want to simply get things for free, but this fact is the base for RIAA and such to steal our money for free. I understand that such companies want to make free money, as there always have been and always will be such low people in this world. What pisses me off is that our governments are doing nothing about it. Or maybe they are getting a little compensation;) $$$
Here in Spain we have the SGAE, a similar RIAA-thing. This agency is serving Spanish artists (serving? hahaha! here in spain artists suck so hard that SGAE charges even them!!! hahaha!). Well, the point I want to make about Spanish state of things is that 99.99% of the Spanish music artists and therefore its works are plain crap. As most (some) people simply skips crap on the stores these artist must have a way to earn money. So they sign up for the big cow, who fucks us all, drinks its own milk, and shits some peanuts for them.
"More blank CDs are now sold in New Zealand than pre-recorded discs."
Shit, man! Main use for blank CDs is not music-and-video-piracy for many of us. I do backups, store my five-megapixel pictures and burn linux distros to give away to my friends! And I'm just avoid talking about hard disks...
Seriously, I think you don't need DRM in order to accomplish this plain task. Also word 'Outlook' would be a pitiful addition to the original post, as this "separate area" could be written by any mail client, remote server monitor, autopr0n rss news feed, or whatever;)
I want my machine to do whatever I want it to do. When computers start to behave differently, I'll stop using them. Or I'll start looking for old C64 schematics! I can imagine my laptop shutting me outside my home. Or filling my police record! Do you remember HAL?:)
Apparently, Jonas has developed a system that can anonymize the data being analyzed through hashing, so the government can share this information with the private sector to look for hits, without the private sector seeing the specific data.
I think we are reaching a point where it would become safer for us all to have the private sector playing freely with our data and sharing the anonymized hashes with the government!
Sure he meant "Maybe 2004 will be the year of Macromedia" instead of "Maybe 2004 will be the year of Linux". I think the year of Linux is already being happening from a few years, and will likely be happening for some years to come... I use Linux and have no need for any macromedia products:D
(PS: T'was friendly, I'm glad Macromedia is coming from "the dark side"! Nice!)
I have to apologize as you are... just right! Next time I'll try to read more carefully. Do please excuse me!:)
By the way I am really concerned on the ETI subject, and many of my computers are running seti@home - and I'm a member of the planetary society mainly for this subject - but I really feel we are forgetting too much about the fact that we are pretty unsure about what's that thing we walk on everyday... Well, or at least discussion about this subject sounds quite faint on the net...
Maybe this feeling of mine is what made me upset enough to answer you without re-reading;):):D
You are right if you think only about alien forms of life, but we have a lot to learn about the way our Earth got formed, and about its contents... And that seems a pretty good place to start:)

Excuse me, I'm sorry because it is written in Spanish, but you should read
this.
If true, this article explains why Mr. Gates is, speaking about computers, but a lamer. It seems he did nothing about MSDOS but buying it from Seattle Computer (it was developed under the name QDOS after Quick and Dirty Operating System). And the article also explains how Gates did just half the job with the BASIC interpreter.
It's a real shame this article is not English, but I bet you can find tons of info just by googling...
Please note that I am calling him a lamer in the computing context only, he just happens to be among the best burglars, and he also proves as a good candidate to rule a tight dictatorship. In fact this task is actually one of its main occupations, and he's succeeding pretty well. But all this success is usually easy to reach, with poor or little skills, when provided with enough moneypower... You know!
could you please give some actual examples of those very successful open source games?

I did also ;) They should change their name inmediately to "British Pr0nographic Industry" just to just avoid embarrasing mistakes

I feel sick! Stop this madness!
