I don't watch Colbert. I only knew about the addition to the space station from Slashdot. And I seriously hope NASA's grown-ups give the module a worthy name, not that of a trendy cable-TV cult personality. NASA's naming conventions are generally far nobler than that.

If the FARK commandos had won the contest with "Rick Astley", would you expect NASA to honor the choice? I sincerely hope not.

    I don't have to take it. I DON'T own a home.

I'm in my mid-thirties and I make roughly 60K a year in a smallish (100,000 people) midwestern community. I have ample means and opportunity to buy property--real estate is very affordable here--but at this point in my life I DO NOT WANT TO.

I have graduate school to pay off and a few other minor debts to take care of, and a massive mortgage responsibility is something I'd rather not carry at this point. Maybe when I'm 40. Maybe when I'm married and we have two incomes to budget with. Not now.

So I take exception to your insistence that I am at fault too in this .. I have my own ideas about who is to blame, from my understanding of the situation, but I can very safely assert that *I* was not among the stupid and irresponsible parties who share the blame for the current economic nightmare that we all share.

Most often-used (and non-actionable) slur on XBox Live: "Fag"

So I guess if you call someone else a fag, you're A-OK. If you call yourself one--WITHOUT the hatefulness!--that's a bridge too far, buddy! People can get offended! by that word when it's not meant as a personal insult. But if you want to insult someone with it ... eh, that's just gamer culture, grow a spine, wuss.

I'm of the DA/DT mindset myself .. but good god. Microsoft needs to reinstate her account and apologize to her IMMEDIATELY if it wants to avoid a major PR nightmare. If it doesn't, well, I guess its reputation just sinks deeper into the muck of mainstream loathing than it already is.

Incidentally, I read the article ... and anyone named "Richard Gaywood" has got to have the most unfortunate name in modern usage. Totally ban-worthy .. even if that IS your honest-to-goodness given name, you don't use it to play XBox Live. Ever.

    > Terminator 3 was made without James Cameron and IMHO, was an entertaining movie that continued the story in an interesting way. I avoided it for a long time for this same kind of reason -- not made by the originator, but eventually watched it on DVD and liked it. (Not as much as the previous two, but still very entertaining.)

Indiana Jones 4 was made by the series originators and was a monumental embarrassment, and a huge blemish on the Indy Jones franchise. As much as I loved Blade Runner--it inspired my fantasies as well as my nightmares throughout my childhood--it needs to be left alone. Some films, nay, MOST films just don't need sequels.

Actually I would submit that a $DEVICE-killer needs to do something that $DEVICE does not do at all. Killer products are revolutionary, bringing a real innovation to the table. That's why the iPhone is such a market leader now, and you can make the same case for the iPod: they brought something to the market that nobody else was doing.
