in the UK any company/organisation which handles personal information (customers for example) wouldn't be allowed to use this OS because of the data protection act.
its probably because ive got an ok signal to begin with (you'l just be boosting noise), its just degraded a lot because of the split between the two computers (its a lot better with the booster and two computers using the signal than no booster and one computer though).
perhaps instead of small ip hoarding companies such as eolas suing microsoft, they should go after their customers - the US government. This would be much better for all involved (except microsoft, who it would hurt the same, prehaps more). hopefully the us goverment would get off their arse and get rid of software patents and supid patents in other fields.
when im watching the tv, i cant hear anything else, my g/f bollocks me for not listening to her but i didn't know she was talking. fortunately for her i dont really like TV, especially with adverts unlike downloads and those skipped by mythtv (on the free to air channels)
i got a signal booster from ebay - we were using the coax cable from the roof arial, but when only one of our computers were plugged into the coax, we couldn't watch channel 5, when we were both plugged in we couldn't get most channels. my dvb card wasn't getting a good enough signal to be watchable. i got 4 way signal booster off ebay for about £15 and now we can both be plugged in and get a perfect picture on both.
i hope that's understandable - i cant be arsed to go back and change it. sorry about the spelling.
I was recommended that card by an aussie in #mythtv-users, works perfect for me. if your planning on getting a dvb card, i should probably tell you about kaffeines (kde media player) support for DVB - looks quite good so far although i probably wont be leaving myth (need network transparancy)

Hello Matthew,
Thanks for your suggestion. We have noted it on our list of suggestions and will consider it for a future version of Qt.
microsoft partly funded this with $10M linux has got media attention because of this
also, if novel do still own unix, wouldn't the license ms bought from sco for posix be invalid, therefore novel would have one more thing to use if ms ever go litigation crazy
jesus christ. i have to say, this is quite possibly the best day of slashdot news ever (and ive been too busy to read most of the day - its 17:47 here).
microsoft to support linux in virtual server major euro politician to stand against software patents india to scrap software patents torvalds finishes new versioning system dvd players being able to skip those bloody adverts
im currently moving away from gentoo (bored of the compile times) but apart from that, its package management is amazing.
if you have a CD with something like UT2004, just put the cd in the drive and do emerge ut2004 (the ebuild tells emerge to get what it needs from the cd)
i know your point it about toy OS's, but i find linux far easier to watch movies in (even if i have to install the media player first) and i love amarok (although ive never tried itunes):
sudo apt-get install mplayer sudo apt-get install w32codecs *double click on media file from konqueror/nautilus (although i prefer to launch mplayer from an xterm)*
i have mentioned on slashdot before that it would be possible (and really really useful) to have an optional gtk emulation layer inside QT (like the OSS emulation module for alsa in the kernel).
Before anybody says im an anti gnome/gtk troll, it cant be done the other way round, QT contains stuff that gtk doesn't have the concepts of, like network sockets
didn't microsoft steal actual sourcecode from apple?
put this in your fstab:
/home/user/.firefox/cache tmpfs max=1024m 0 0
none
i think thats right (im an opera user so im only guessing at ~/.firefox/cache)

by that logic all the people that sponsored the pissing marathon runner would be fined (weeingInPublic/(herSponsorship * theirContribution))

yes, we dont have a broadcast flag on DVB-T.

footie is short for football - soccer to you word-stealing americans ;)
i live in the UK and own a DVB-T card (use it with mythtv). it cost me £50 from here. works great too.
ive never thought of posting it to trolltech, i'l do it now.
i wouldn't call it heavy, but:
microsoft partly funded this with $10M
linux has got media attention because of this
also, if novel do still own unix, wouldn't the license ms bought from sco for posix be invalid, therefore novel would have one more thing to use if ms ever go litigation crazy
that would explain a lot
decss isn't legal in america. iirc, it uses the decryption key from a commercial program and uses that to decrypt the dvd's.
i never thought i would her "yer scouse git" on slashdot.
if only american IRCers would understand what i actually mean when i say "brb - going for a fag/bru"

about your #2:

apt-get install theappsname
emerge theappsname
urpmi theappsname
yast (not sure about the syntax)
yum
just choose one for your distro, or even easier use a pointy clicky app like kpackage
in gentoo /opt is used for binary packages (usually closed source software) such as opera, vmware, limewire, etc
same with (k)ubuntu
