Good question. My first thought was that Microsoft hadn't delved into the JPG scene. Then I remembered they have Image Composer and possibly a photo editor that I recall seeing but can't say for certain.

I'd like to find out why they were omitted as well.

Make a robot that can take voice commands to make either a battlebot or a beerbot. With only two options, that should be a cinch, right? That's win-win.

  4. Re:You can laugh... on Koolio, the Beer Delivery Robot · · Score: 1

What we need is a robot that delivers women!

Only if there is a robot in waiting to take her away when she's outlived her usefulness.

  5. No better in Canada.... on IT Workers Not Eligible for Overtime in New Rules · · Score: 4, Insightful

...well, perhaps not all of Canada, but I have been in IT now for 6 years and never once have received any overtime.

My current job has the best "overtime" policy that I've had thus far, in that lieu time off is calculated on overtime hours * 1.5. So we get time and a half OFF for the time we work. Not bad. Gives me at *least* one day off every 3 weeks.

So I have more time off, and no extra income to fork over to the gov't to misappropriate.

Sounds like the latter. Anyone in a non-IT has no reason or business knowing any of those passwords.

My science teacher said something in passing one day in class as a joke that has stuck with me since, and I will never forget elements 55 and 56 in the periodic table as a result.

He threatened a student by saying he would 55/56 'em if they didn't start paying attention. 55 being Cesium, 56 being Barium. I couldn't help but laugh and sadly, use it whenever I get the chance.

  8. Re:Next week is "National Don't read a Book Week" on National TV Turn Off Week · · Score: 1

Agreed. Asking people to not watch any TV for a week is rather useless. What should be addressed is the pattern of TV viewing as has been said already. There are a couple "junk" shows I watch, but for the most part, the TV I watch is History/Learning/Space channel that are informative and a learning endeavour.

If someone spent 20 hours a week reading The Enquirer, and other tabloid rags, does that make that time well spent? Absolutely not. Trash is treah is trash in whatever media it's available in.

Get people to realize they can LEARN, develop and be COGNISANT of the world around them through any number of mediums. Radio, TV, Newspaper, etc. are all tools that can better you if used well and not wasted.

As well, I also believe we all have our "guilty pleasure" that we're entitled to, again, when kept in check.

I believe the main difference is the ability of this new material to prevent any water damage. I've seen the TV submerged in a tank before, but if you take that TV out, I believe it would be dripping wet. Not so with this material as far as I can tell. I'd like to see the video of the book coming out of the tank.

I think that works for animals who are looking for general areas, or general "feelings". But if you are trying to pinpoint a location down to seconds, I doubt highly that a magnetic field which is constantly shifting and moving around would be of much use to GPS.

  11. Re:"Suggestion: Buy a clue" on RIAA's Nasty Easter Egg · · Score: 1

Comparing The Beatles to today's "boy bands" is ridiculous.

The Beatles have had a profound influence on many musicians. They were pioneers (Lennon's purported first use of recorded feedback in I Feel Fine, I believe) and they were (mostly) exceptionally talented musicians. I don't know any musicians in my area's circuit who study N'Sync and look to Backstreet Boys for inspiration for their next original.

Yes, the Beatles were molded into a "boy band" of the time, but to say they were "nothing more than" a boy band smacks of ignorance.

Makes me wish I were a developer at this point. To have a hand in the OS that may well knock MS off their ivory tower would be a great feeling.

Here's hoping the developers are up to task on delivering. Godspeed developers, godspeed.

No they wouldn't. Did the US gov't do all they could do to stop Microsoft? No. It was a joke. If Microsoft was European and had the anti-trust brought against them in the US I think you'd have seen a far stiffer ruling. And I don't know that I agree with you that they were come down on hard. If Microsoft made what *I* make a year, it'd be a bitch. That fine is laughable at best to them. As for the rest of the decision, it's well deserved.

But other things such as "cute" screensavers (likely spyware), comet cursor's "cute" pointers and the like are just as popular.
