  1. Ahh... Epistemology! on Are Computers Ready to Create Mathematical Proofs? · · Score: 0

I just decided to take a break from my Epistemology (the study of knowledge and 'how do we know that we know'?) and look at Slashdot to find this as headline!!!! Now I know this is a sign from God and those Iraqi weapons of mass destruction to get back to work!

    This is incorrect, see:

I found that link a long time ago from this obscure website, though you may have heard of it: /.

I suggest you check it, it's not a bad place if only there were fewer trolls and more people RTA. ;) Oh, btw apparently PowerPC is already already open:

"Aside from compatibility, one of the best things about the PowerPC architecture is that it is open: it specifies an instruction set architecture (ISA) that allows anyone to design and fabricate PowerPC-compatible processors; and source code for software modules developed in support of PowerPC is freely available." 8. Tablet PC on Portable Word Processors? · · Score: 0, Offtopic

I knwo you said you didn't want a laptop, but have you looked at a TabletPC? I know you are stuck with Microsoft but it's quite the interesting gadget. They are usually smaller than most laptops and quite light (no floppy-disk or CD/DVD drive in it) and when you want you can convert it into a regular laptop! They are a bit pricey but Windows Journal is a great app. You can write by hand and then use it's great handwriting converter to change it into text so it's as if you typed it! And it is quite accurate since it works well for me and sometimes I can't read my own writing! Also you can "Print to Journal" so that you can 'print' regular files into Journals and then correct Journals by hand using the highlighter and pen tools. I use this when I'm doing research and I find an online source. I doodle and makes notes and arrows on the document itself. There is a free download from the Microsoft Update Centre for a Journal viewer in XP so that you can send you writings to friends and they can view it on their desktops. Just shop around since they charge a premium and some of them are insanley expensive. Disclaimer: I'm not affliated with Microsoft in anyway neither is anyone I know, I'm just a happy owner of a Acer TravelMate C100.

At school I know many people would perfer to run Linux but can't live with out their games. And if they are gonna need to run wondows for their games they might as well stick to one OS in general. Just laziness really. Annd these are Computer Science students so we are not tlaking about people who can't handle a console or UNIXness... just people who have no lives and don't shower. Linux has a big chance coming up though. The most common game on campus is Counter-Strike. If when Counter Strike 2 rolls around if Linux supports its it will provide an oppurtunity to people generally sick of Windows updates and crashes. But the key is the games above anything. If we get these guys using Linux at home for gaming they'll use it for everything else and then they'll move their families to it since they'll be able to support it and et cetera. This is the key and the balls is going to be dropped. Everyone wants to do enterprise first but I think the proper place to start is the basement of every house.
