  1. Re:TiVo on HBO Attacking BitTorrent · · Score: 1

Unfortunately to be able to buy HBO here you usually have to sign-up for one basic package and another standard package before you can choose a "premium" package like HBO. So HBO is only "$6-$7" dollars ON TOP of the previous charges. All in it works out to something like $80CDN/mo which would be much better invested in plain ole movie rentals (which are fairly cheap from the independent rental down the street and being a movie buff he has a better slection). Unfortunately I'm not the only one here so I can't do the common sense thing.

Frankly, I've disliked Linus(from what I know of him) for a while now. Sure I love Linux (running KDE on Gentoo) right now but I've considered him an idiot for a while now. There is this incident for example. Or his inability to understand the value of a stable API. Also I remember him dismissing switching over to C++ because they tried it once and found it too slow and hard to program in. Fine, don't use C++... but considering apparently this attempt predates the standardisation of C++ not to mention the advances of C++ I'm tempted to mark that comment as a troll. Not making the files drivers need to hook into LGPL and making binary drivers realistic is a toss-up but I think it's unreasonable. When he decided that stabilising the kernel was for distros to do... well to me it sounded like "I just wanna do the fun parts... let someone else handle that." There have been other complaints that the kernel was marked stable before it truly was and that he is unwilling to let a 'stable' kernel bew stable. Really, I wish ppl would just start using one of the *BSD kernels. I wonder how long it take for RedHat to start using the FreeBSD kernels. Considering how many kernel hackers they employ it seems like they could smoothe out the wrinkles in FreeBSD.
