How is it wrong to raise the price? This game is not that previous game you bought for the same price. In the same way Harry Potter is not star wars. They may come on DVD's but they are in no way the same movie.
And in short: you're going to go without. Good or bad the games industry is fed up with used games, and piracy. That means the entire experience is going to require you be authenticated with their service, constantly, and some of the core content will only exist on that service. In other words it's going to look at lot more like Steam, and a lot less like the 1980's.
I think the automobile industry should do this also. Make it so software is required to drive the car, and that software gets downloaded everytime you start the car up. That way the car manufactures can make money thru the used market without having to actually buy and sell used cars.
I would like to see numbers on how true this is. I don't think a lot of people buy games with the intent of trading it in later.
I've known plenty of gamers that gets new games when they come out by trading/selling old games. If they finish a game that has no big replay value to them, they will sell it as soon as they can when it's worth more money. Games like Modern Warfare/Call of Duty, they tend to keep a little longer usually, but then will sell/trade them in for other games.
Well, the story is clearly not about actual science, but how crazy some of these remote viewing people can be.
The group claiming to see the alien ship are not in the least bit credible. Slashdot efditors: If you are going to discuss lunatics, at least get someone with an interesting past. For example:
Reading Laura's site, she has a ton of amazing claims, in fact, the missions to Mars are far from being the craziest of her claims. You can tell it is written with sincerity, but I just can't believe a member of the Eisenhower family could be this crazy.
Am I the only person who thinks that mega got raided because of the lawsuit they have against universal? While we will never know, it did seem like they had a good case against them.
but it doesn't matter now, because they (Mega) will probably never recover even if they were to win this case.
One thing needs to be said here - The captain was probably qualified to manage and navigate a boat. However, you and many of the other critics on this thread wanted him to automatically be a *hero* as well, and found him wanting. I'm not trying to defend this guy, but I find it surprising that so many armchair critics demand such an incredibly high standard of professionalism and performance and even heroism from others.....
I don't know what reality you like to live in, but in the real world, there is such thing as responsibility to go with jobs. For example, if you choose to be a fireman, you are going into burning houses. If you choose to be in the military, you are going to be put in life & death situations. You choose to be a nanny, you are wiping poop off of butts.
Do you understand? The Captain is the last person off a ship, or he goes down with the ship. 1 or the other. That is a captains job. A smart Captain, doesn't endanger the lives of 1000's of people by going off course. Of course, this person isn't smart, as not only he went off course, he fucking bailed before everyone else when the ship crashed.
Dude is a loser. He does not deserve to be a captain, he deserves to be sued by all the passengers, and hopefully spend the rest of his life doing some crappy low paying job because he blew his big chance in life.
But then, he's like Italian and honestly, they have a great track record for being cowards.
Not only did the Coast Guard order him back, but he refused the order. He gave excuses that included "it's too dark" and "but it's on its side".
I can't fathom how such a pathetic human being ever made Captain. He is obviously tremendously unqualified.
Seeing pictures of him didn't surprise me that he bailed first. He seemed like the kind of guy who would be first to fuck your sister, but bails when she asks for bus change.
How does copyrighting a previously public domain item even work? I mean, if someone copyrights, say, a book in the public domain, and I then go ahead and reprint that book, I can state that my copy is a printed version of the public domain version, and any copyright claim should be moot, since they can't prove I used the copyrighted version. Am I missing something?
Madness.
Do you have enough money to battle this in court for probably 20 years or so. Because the big corporations who are going to take advantage of this do.
If somebody set off a nuke in D.C. and wiped out the entire Federal government, I think at this point I'd celebrate. It would be the best thing to happen to the USA in a century.

Sir, that is a terrorist plot against the USA. Please sit still, we have sent 2000 different government agents with lots of firepower to bring you in "peacefully".
Sincerely Yours,
The Department of Save our Children from the Terrorists.
And you are wrong. Please. you have no clue what corruption is like in Peru, and many other countries.
When was the last time you had to pay off the cable guy on top of your normal payment? when was the last time you had to slip an extra hundred to get your water turned on?
When was the last time the police came to you house so sell you 'protection'?
Please.
I think alot of people wouldn't mind slipping a cable guy some extra cash if he showed up at a certain time. Currently, since there are so many and you don't know who you will get, the system doesn't support that unless the call center was in it.
I can't talk about water, but i can talk about electricty bills. You know, the ones that charge you a bunch of money during one time of the year, then credit you later? They already have their scam. And I've had them come to my door, say they are turning off my electricty unless I pay them a certain amount. So i had no choice but to pay them.
And the last one? Not me personally, but power corrupts and policemen have power, so yes, there are policemen out there selling their services as protection plus doing other crimes against the people they are supposed to be protecting. It's human nature and we let the police do pretty much anything as it is.
No, we aren't like this peru you are talking about (do you even have proof that it's like that, or do you just say it because of a few headlines and it fits your argument good?
I used to steal crap and return fake stuff. I'm talking along time ago though.
TurboGraphix 16 games came in a CD case. We'd buy a game, put in a empty cd case, shrinkwrap the game back up, and return it for another game.
While what we did was wrong, the store should of check it to make sure it was there.
Fast forward 20+ years, and people are doing this still?
Listen shit for brains retailers. If someone returns something, you need to check it out and make sure it's actually there. Shrinkwrap machines were easy enough to get access to in the late 80's and early 90's and it's now 2012.
Honestly, I like this plan, 'cept for 1 thing. It's way too easy to leave fingerprints in clay.
Coincidentally, I bet most slashdotters can't provide a valid reason (no imagination, no tinfoil) for hating any of them. And I'm accomplishing nothing by stating so besides ruffling the herd:)
I hate Facebook because it's a platform for gleaning as much info, personal or otherwise, from it's user, without giving any added value. They do NOT care about user rights or privacy, which has been shown time and time again in various articles.
Facebook wants to make as much money as it can off of you, and it doesn't care how.
(And yes, i know peeps will say Google is like that, but that's not true. Google provides a lot of useful services and don't sell you out to 3rd parties for some extra cash.)
We here in the U.S. know that our politicians aren't in the least bit technologically savvy (yes, I'm painting with a broad brush when I say that)....
That is an excuse.
If you are a politician it's your job to be familiar with issues that face your constituents. Not familiar with technology, get learning.
If I can't use the ignorance as an excuse to get out of trouble when I break a law, then the politicians damn well better get familiar with the issues they are voting on, if not, that is a big failure on their part and even a bigger failure on the people voting for that person.
Somebody has to drill for oil, and they are going to create oil spills, that's just a fact of life. We (humans) try to do the best we can when weighing costs and benefits, and when we get it wrong, we try to correct it. But doing nothing because it might be too risky is just as bad as not regulating things at all.
I suspect BP and Exxon both had a much harder time getting new contracts, but in the end, there are few companies that can do these kinds of jobs. So what alternative do you suggest?
Actually, No one has to drill for oil, we can move on to other way of powering our fat asses around the world. But if we didn't drill for oil, the Corporations wouldn't make money, which pisses off the 1% who owns 99% of everything.
You do know that the USA wants to suck all the oil out of everywhere else before it's gets to it's reserves? And they will go to any lengths to do it. They know if they have the monopoly on Oil, then rest of the world is screwed.
We can say, Enough! Use the oil that is easy to get to, stop going after the harder to get oil, and work on moving from oil to renewable energies.
And quit taking risks that probably aren't worth it.
Actually no, Google's Indian call centers are involved too, so this is obviously coming outside Google's Kenya's offices. On top of that, Google as the company is fully responsible for all their offices practices. You can't just point out that some other department did it.
but isn't that sort of excuse making that our government, corporations and Catholic leaders do?
feed it high fructose corn syrup, it won't be too small for very long...
they reap what they sow.
You want to make the most profit you can, so you undercut. You leave things out, like good security. You make bad choices, all in the name of profit.
Well, you can't skimp on computer security, can you?

All Nintendo has to do is make a Pokemon MMORPG and they got the killer app for the Wii-U and the Nintendo Network.
Unless of course, they try to make it a WoW killer.
subject says it all, but i say, who fucking cares?
Linux has had over 10 years to make a decent UI and it hasn't yet.
Look, i'm a linux fan also, but lets be real. Linux has has so much potential, only to suck where it's really needed the most.
yes, mod me troll, but you know it's true.
And i'll still be waiting next year i'm sure...

Tom Cruise was unavailable for comment as he was squashed flat by the alien ship landing.
Rendering him several inches shorter.
Tom Cruise is rendered? I knew a real person couldn't be as stupid as he is.

Tell that to the dictators in the world...
