Granted the Dreamcast (I am not one of those fan boys who says it's more powerful then the PS2) was the first machine I learned about "hacking" on, which was basicly learning to make boot disks so I could boot up copies of games/homebrew. The PS2 was the first gaming console that gave me a harddrive to do it with.
Granted I didn't get my first PS2 till about 6 months before the PS3 came out. I was mostly a PC gamer at that point, but of course, had all the various consoles up till the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube came out. So I got this PS2 from a friend, with the 10gb harddrive in it. And I have the internet, which I embarked on my hacking quest. I got my hands on a Action Replay disk and a usb stick that came with it. This was enough to get the needed programs to run, but not enough to play backups, as I had to make a hook (used an old credit card, worked great) to unlock the DVD drive so i could swap in a backup to play.
Eventually I discovered the Harddrive loaders, and then, Free MCBoot came out and well, nothing has been easier then playing whatever I want on my PS2. Dragon Quest VIII is a RPG that is worth it, in my opinion. Can't get it anywhere else. In fact, I have over 150gb of PS2 RPG's I downloaded.
Sad note, my PS2 killed another harddrive, 3rd one so far, so I think it's controller is bad, now I have to find another one. Sucks.
I've taken other PS2 apart to fix them, i've built many a PS2 system for people to game on in the last 3 years.
Just one thing I never ever understood. Why didn't anyone use firewire connection to hook up a pc to a PS2?
Anyways, love my PS2, and as soon as I get a new network/harddrive controller, it's going back up on my computer desk, next to my Commodore 1902 monitor.
Going to have to say, the Logitech made the best wireless gamepad for the PS2, solid, vibrates, not too big, not too small. one of my favorite gamepads still.
The funny thing is that, despite its hardware being completely obsolete, I've often felt Sony sent it to the back burner (via the PS3 launch) too soon. Both the console and its games were still selling well when the PS3 launched, with the 360 having failed to take much wind out of its sales.../p>
That is funny thing to say. Because Sony was the only one selling games for the previous generation system when the new systems came out. Did MS still support the original Xbox? Fuck no. Yet Sony still had new games coming out for the PS2 long after the PS3 was released. In fact, for being a "back burner" they just finally stopped making PS2, did MS still make Xboxes 5 years ago? No? So why is the back burner so bad when they have a new product? At least they were keeping it warm, not forgetting it like MS Did.
I do remember Nintendo making some Gamecube games will after the Wii was released, like Zelda was made for both systems (i think, could be wrong). But that was a case of developing it at the end of the Gamecube cycle and that the Gamecube is very very very similiar to the Wii.
" I suspect Prenda Law will fight tooth-and-nail to avoid answering any questions, which in my opinion, further suggests that their “ethically challenged” attorneys are guilty as alleged."
So the writer suspects Prenda Law might do something in the future, and therefore immediately assumes they are already guilty.
While the alleged facts would be damning if proven true, and I hold no love for copyright (or patent) trolls, let's not rush to judgement until the facts are on the table.
I would have prefered that Slashdot use some discretion before allowing this post.
Law firms aren't allowed to invent fictitious plaintiffs (or commit identity theft) in order to initiate lawsuits. (And there are very strict rules on recruiting named plaintiffs for class actions.) It may not be a fraud against the defendants (though probably is), but it can still be a fraud against the courts; that's completely separate from the actual merits (or lack thereof) of the case. Fraud against the court is something a lawyer does; normal fraud is something defendants get accused of doing.
The penalty for fraud against the court starts with monetary sanctions (in addition to getting your case dismissed), and can end with a recommendation for disbarment. (I don't know if a judge can impose jail time without a DA involved (like with contempt of court)... I doubt it.)
I would think Fraud against the court would be one of the highest contempt of court you could do.
I had a friend who was a heavy pot smoker and started have a psychotic break... eventually he blew his head off with a shotgun. I always had the feeling the weed aggravated his condition. I know plenty of pot smokers are fine too. Can't we entertain the idea that for certain people pot may be deleterious?
You ever consider that weed kept your friend from blowing his head off sooner then later?
His psychotic break most likely had to do with other things that never got treated. Mental trauma or something, and he eventually snapped. Question I have is, was he stoned when he blew his head off?
I knew this girl who went bat shit crazy when she was stoned. Did it stop her from getting stoned? No. Is it weeds fault? No.
If you have mental problems and do NOT get the proper help for it, then shit is going to happen, whether you smoke weed or not. Blaming weed for the problems isn't going to help, the problem isn't weed.
I wondered about that too but chalked it up to being a slashdot summary. I'm guessing the law is going to be a little clearer on what entities are subject to request. I'm thinking it means that an employer could ask a former employer which ran its own email service, if it could have a copy of any emails it still has on file. I'd guess a bit of reluctance on the part of the former employer, but you can always ask. Same thing for a school.
ya, slashdot summary of a website that did a bad job. Here is the bill:
Roughly, it says that Employers, prospective employers and educational institutes can NOT ask for login info from employees, prospective employees and students. If it does, you can take them to civil court for a max of $1000 in damages.
This is the exemptions:
Sec. 5. (1) This act does not prohibit an employer from doing any of the following:
(a) Requesting or requiring an employee to disclose access information to the employer to gain access to or operate any of the following:
(i) An electronic communications device paid for in whole or in part by the employer.
(ii) An account or service provided by the employer, obtained by virtue of the employee’s employment relationship with the employer, or used for the employer’s business purposes.
(b) Disciplining or discharging an employee for transferring the employer’s proprietary or confidential information or financial data to an employee’s personal internet account without the employer’s authorization.
(c) Conducting an investigation or requiring an employee to cooperate in an investigation in any of the following circumstances:
(i) If there is specific information about activity on the employee’s personal internet account, for the purpose of ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulatory requirements, or prohibitions against work-related employee misconduct.
(ii) If the employer has specific information about an unauthorized transfer of the employer’s proprietary information, confidential information, or financial data to an employee’s personal internet account.
(d) Restricting or prohibiting an employee’s access to certain websites while using an electronic communications device paid for in whole or in part by the employer or while using an employer’s network or resources, in accordance with state and federal law.
(e) Monitoring, reviewing, or accessing electronic data stored on an electronic communications device paid for in whole or in part by the employer, or traveling through or stored on an employer’s network, in accordance with state and federal law.
So basically they are saying if you get hardware from them, ie tablet, phone, computer, they can go thru it and do what they want. They can also make it so you can NOT access social network sites if they want. And if they suspect that you are spilling secrets (and probably talking shit) on a social network, then they can request your login info.
There isn't a loophole and the article this was linked to is a fail summary of this bill.
Except now they aren't allowed to ask at all to begin with. If they ask, it's grounds for what seems like a complaint and a fine, just as if the employer asked what religion you are a member of or how old you are.
Employers can NOT ask how old you are? Seems that would matter in some jobs. Porno industry would be one. Any job that serves or sells alcohol.
Plus most jobs have your fill an application, which requests your date of birth.
It's against the law to ask employees or prospective employees for login info for social media sites, unless those accounts are owned by a company or an educational institution.
So I guess the question is, do you own your facebook account? Do you own your gmail account? How about your iTunes account?
Very few people are willing to buy a second PC and connect it to a television. See, for example, these comments. Part of the difference is that devices marketed as PCs are traditionally associated with a different kind of game, the FPS, RTS, and MMORPG that can be played with a keyboard and mouse, not the platformers, racing games, fighting games, and party games that work with one to four gamepads.
Did you bother even reading what I was replying? You should have. I am going to go slow here, so try to follow along:
The OP (original poster) said that he would like a console that took off the shelf graphic cards and the ability to upgrade graphic cards when new ones came out.
What he wanted was basicly a PC, which I pointed out and then also mentioned that his idea of a custom chip is expensive. I then went on to use a real life example on why this wouldn't work. That example basicly said that even if there was a machine that kicked ass, all the developers are going to develop towards what is popular, thus is why we have dated Xbox 360 and PS3 graphics for our current PC games.
Can you grasp that I wasn't saying people should be another PC for their TV, in fact, I don't give a fuck when people do with their TV, I was just pointing out that his idea of a kick ass console was a bad idea and basically already implemented in what we call a PC.
desperately to catch up with the "way worse" to be it's own sort of police state
If that's true, why did the USA oppose the UN's attempt at 'internet governance?' You think they would be all over the opportunity to regulate the internet.
Let me get this correct. You are asking me on why the USA does NOT want the UN to be in charge of the internet? Seriously?
The USA does NOT want to lose the power it has over the internet. The corporations that pay off our politicians do NOT want to have to start paying off the government in every country, so they want the USA to stay in charge.
If the USA handling of "pirate" websites being taken down, without court orders or do rights, does not convince you of this, then, I'm sorry you are you.
I mean, after all, the USA wouldn't do police state stuff like take down business (domains) without court orders or do rights. The same USA that would NEVER allow warrant less wiretaps.
Due to the recent school shooting, they have put a ton of restrictions on schools.
Umm, maybe in a few places but mostly things are unchanged. I coach at a high school and there has been pretty much no change in any of the 50 or so high schools in our county since the recent shooting in New England. Some understandable discussions regarding what would be appropriate action but there hardly has been any knee jerk reaction in most places.
TSA is there to make sure we don't forget that someone tried to light a sneaker on fire on a plane.
The TSA is there because some crazy people flew airplanes into buildings. That's not to excuse some of the ridiculous behavior of the TSA but it is there because we told our elected officials that a bunch of rent-a-cops weren't doing an adequate job of airport security before 9/11 which is arguably true. The TSA seems to be quite the overreaction but it is there because we collectively were afraid and our government did what we wanted them to do at the time.
And there is a ton more that has happened in the last 10 years that has shown that we are heading towards a police state.
A conveniently vague argument. If you really think the US is turning into a police state then why don't you move somewhere else?
One of the biggest clues is we have Wars on things.
Right, the War on Poverty really is a sign that we are oppressed. Terrible thing that our government did trying to help people.
The TSA hasn't stopped anything other then quick traveling since they have been started.
Guess as more laws, like the wiretapping law, aren't going to convince you that we are heading to a police state. I bet you are one of those people who will justify everything up until they take you away.
War on Poverty? Of all the wars, you pick one that is from 50's? Dude, wake the fuck up. We are talking current events, not shit from over 50 years ago. Oh, and by the way, how did the war on poverty turn out? Did we get rid of the poor people?
I imagine you have a good life, you got time to coach, probably in your declining years. You are retired or getting ready to retire, and don't want to think that the great USA that you remember is going down the shit hole. Well, sorry buddy, it is, and why? Because people like you refuse to see the truth. You want to believe that everything will turn out good. That everyone is here to help everyone else and has the best interests in heart. The world isn't like that. People with power, abuse that power. They do what they can to get more power, and don't care who they hurt in the process. This is the history of man. We have always been that way, we always will be. And why? Because only a few of us listen and pay attention when it's happening, everyone else think it doesn't exist, or it's someone else's problem.
How can we turn off the pop ups about the new mobile site? I don't really give a shit since the "new" mobile site looks like ass. The constant pop ups at every page load is fucking annoying.
Here's the vote of each Senator on this bill. Only 23 voted Nay, only 3 of those Nays were Republicans, and 4 Senators didn't even show up to vote. And President Obama is quite ready to sign it into law.
This country is broken.
Washington State voted no because they know the gov is going to use them warrant less eavesdropping against it. Colorado apparently had 1 senator too stoned to vote no.
Well, I guess all the senators that voted yes are cool with them being wiretapped. After all, it's for their safety.
guess it's time for encryption to go mainstream, of course, it will be illegal to use any encryption soon...
Glad to see you escaped and all, and now also have predictions for us?
You go!
Seriously though, Windows 8 is going to be a big target? Really? Because I bet MS was sort of hoping that malware dudes skipped Windows 8 and just paid attention to Apples and Androids OS's and users.
Um, No shit Windows 8 is going to be a big target. Fucking seriously, does everyone at McAfee take bath salts?
Think how much better off if the entire Congress was behind bars, together with the President and all his cabinet, and most of the top corporate officers. Hey, it's a start.
Okay, what I have learned from the movies and TV is that being in jail doesn't stop someone from getting bad things done.
I don't give a flying fuck what he says. I want to know the facts, not the accusations and spin.
I'd like to go on the record that I don't give a flying fuck what he says and I DON'T want to know the facts.
I figure it will become a made for TV movie that I will end up watching the next time i'm waiting in the emergency room of a hospital, or in jail, or somewhere where I can NOT change the channel.
Cue up obligatory "But the USA is way worse!" postings from trolls who have never left their mother's basement and who have no idea what a *real* police state is.
having left my mom's basement and venturing into the real world I find USA to not be way worse, but trying desperately to catch up with the "way worse" to be it's own sort of police state.
Due to the recent school shooting, they have put a ton of restrictions on schools. TSA is there to make sure we don't forget that someone tried to light a sneaker on fire on a plane. Putting up advertisments for a legal business is a great way to show how "police state" we have become. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Boston_bomb_scare And there is a ton more that has happened in the last 10 years that has shown that we are heading towards a police state. One of the biggest clues is we have Wars on things. War on Drugs, War on Terrorist, War on Freedom. War on anyone cutting into corporations profits.
While we may not be as bad as some of the other places, we are trying damn hard to get there.
What makes you say the OP is crazy? His vision of a big brother policed internet isnt that far fetched.
Word, if I had mod points you'd both be modded up. You have to be blind to not see that all the laws passed are about reducing our freedom in favor of corporations and "fear of whatever" campaigns.
... The first company to offer a true gaming supercomputer will get my money. They say graphics don't matter but obviously they do if people are always trying to buy the latest PC and latest graphics card.
What someone needs to do is create a console which somehow links up multiple graphics cards for under $1000. Call it a gaming supercomputer, and target hardcore gamers via Kickstarter. See how much funds can be raised. See if a custom chip can be designed for the project if enough funds can be raised to be used along side the Nvidia GeForce GTX 590. Allow for upgrading the card or cards and you have it.
They do offer it, it's called a PC. A custom chip? Then you get into programming problems, and high costs for manufacturing a custom chip.
Okay, i started typing up a great example and realized I didn't need to do that. Your example this time is Real Life. We are looking at the latest generation from MS and Sony. Video Consoles that are over 5 years old. PC's on the other hand, keep getting new video cards, etc. Yet the quality of the games that come out match the lowest common machine, which is either the 360 or PS3, since by 2012 standards, they suck dog shit.
In other words, just because you have a machine with the latest graphics, it doesn't matter. The devs develop for the lowest common denominator.
How was the data inconclusive? It seems to me that the data is as conclusive as a single study can be.
It shows that there isn't a simple relationship where either one causes the other, or the other causes the one. In that respect, it may be similar to alcohol, where people tend to drink more when they're depressed, and alcohol is a depressant.
Well, in over 30 years of smoking weed and knowing people that smoke weed, I have NOT found one person to have Psychosis. Yet in over 40 years of living I have found a shit load of religious people that have Psychosis.
This study is a nice idea, but it has no bearing at all on reality.
So many lies, for so long, for all the wrong reasons, what is the truth?
This is your brain (frying pan).
This is your brain on drugs (egg frying in that frying pan).
You know, I stopped believe in what adults told me as a child. Why?
They said Santa was real, he isn't. They said The Tooth Fairy was real, she's not. Easter bunny? Not real. This will hurt me more then it will hurt you? Lies! Do as I say, not as I do? Set a better example! Babies come in storks!
With adults spending a lot of time lying to children, is it no surprise when they don't believe you about anything?
I looked up the meaning of psychosis: Psychosis is a loss of contact with reality that usually includes: False beliefs about what is taking place or who one is (delusions); Seeing or hearing things that aren't there (hallucinations).
That describes religious people, not stoners.
I've known people that smoke weed for over 40 years, and none of them see shit that isn't there. None of them believe in false stuff, except the religious ones. Most the others have businesses, jobs, responsibilities they take care of.
I've known druggies that lost reality after ODing on coke or heroin, but I have NEVER seen anyone do that on weed.
What I gained from the article was kids that have psychosis are more likely to use drugs, which doesn't surprise me. I was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia when I was in my mid 30's. Growing up I had no idea why people heard me say different things then I was saying, why people always took what i said or did at it's worse instead of how it was intended and why I had a hard time functioning socially with people. During my 20's I did a shit ton of drugs. I gave up, I didn't understand why I had problems with people. Drugs (heroin) made me feel better, or made me not care for a bit, made life a bit more bearable (so i thought). After I found out about my dyslexia and ADHD and got help for that, I understood finally what the problem had been. I had no problem quitting my heroin addiction after that. In fact, in almost 10 years since I found out, I've been clean. (I don't count weed as a drug like heroin, coke, benzo's, etc).
Funny how people have been smoking weed since it's been around and in over 100 years of recorded medical history we still get stories like this, that really have nothing to do with anything.
Granted the Dreamcast (I am not one of those fan boys who says it's more powerful then the PS2) was the first machine I learned about "hacking" on, which was basicly learning to make boot disks so I could boot up copies of games/homebrew. Stop thinking every title needs to be a triple AAA title with millions of dollars in cost, that has to sell a large amount of copies to turn a profit.
Stop putting crappy DRM on your software, since that only hurts your customers.
Stop making crappy consoles ports.
And quit fucking blaming everything on piracy.

There are popups? Wasn't aware of that.
Putting up advertisments for a legal business is a great way to show how "police state" we have become. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Boston_bomb_scare
And there is a ton more that has happened in the last 10 years that has shown that we are heading towards a police state.
One of the biggest clues is we have Wars on things. War on Drugs, War on Terrorist, War on Freedom. War on anyone cutting into corporations profits.
While we may not be as bad as some of the other places, we are trying damn hard to get there.
... Now think about the "mom test" (would you add your mom to your "friends" list?),..
Thanks for reminding me my mom is dead.
With adults spending a lot of time lying to children, is it no surprise when they don't believe you about anything?
and this sort of shit cracks me up.
He was always good with codes...
woot!
