    Acer understands.

Tablets are an accessory. They are an extension of a desktop. They are not desktop computers, they are not laptops. They are NOT here to replace those. And you don't want to spend $500+ on an accessory for your computer.

Acer also understands that people don't need/want a cell phone data plan for their tablet. We got wifi, it's more then good enough.

Provided the FCC allows Acer to sell these in the USA (this article didn't say it, but another article i read about it did say the FCC hadn't approved those yet, here's the article: http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2012/12/24/acer-plans-to-launch-99-tablet/)

But of course, it's about the consumers, isn't it? Is cheap good enough, or will cries of "it's not an iPad" ruin it's run?

I'd rather have a 10" to 12" screen myself, so hoping this plays out well.

I know you're trying to make a point, but the situation isn't really comparable. For one, pirates do not claim ownership over the content, and secondly, pirates can't legally make money out of it whereas when a company imposes a ToS - change like this on its userbase they actually CAN then legally make money out of your content. That makes the whole premise of the situation quite different, with pirates mostly focusing on consuming the content themselves, and companies focusing on monetizing the content.

And that is the reason I'm indifferent to pirates. I may not like them, but they are a necessary evil in this day and age.

It seems to me the only people besides those with serious mental problems that can not distinguish between reality and fantasy is the religious minded people in the world.

Video games are fantasy. They are NOT real. Sure, some people live as if their online lives in games matter in real life, but then we got people that think some invisible dude in the sky is going to let you in his big ass resort of goodness after you die. We got people that think if they set off a suicide bomb that they will get 100 virgins in Heaven.

The problem isn't video games, the problem is that acceptance of stuff that isn't real, as being real.

I never thought things on TV was real. Even as a kid, and as I kid in the 70's, the TV was my babysitter for most my growing up.

You want to help stop stuff like school shootings to happen? Then make healthcare free for everyone. including mental health. We can try to help people that have a bad grasp on reality and a better chance of seeing the warning sides. I'm not talking locking up people that are suspected they might go batshit crazy, but instead make sure those people are getting the help they need mainly in times of stress, like they lose a job, etc.

Worse, Obama talks about how kids are the future, and yet he wants to spend trillions in wars and not spend money building up our schools and giving the children the help and care they need to be.

Everyone knows what the problem is, but it's cheaper to throw money at other things (the usual scape goats, like Gun Control and Violence in Video Games, then to actually make sure American Citizens have a support system to keep this from happening.

Dogs can be trained to do a lot of things, and therefore can be very "useful". So people feed them.

Cats almost can't be trained, they sleep or play around the whole day. An yet people feed them as well.

Which is more intelligent, cats or dogs?

Cats. Because they realize that whatever you are going to teach them is going to be used against them repeatedly. Thus my cat doesn't bother to learn how to fetch because it does NOT want to run after a ball and bring it back to me. The idea is to give everyone access to crawl data. If you work at a large search company, you have access to crawl data. You can also set up crawlers to get the data yourself, but that is expensive and having countless crawlers doing duplicative work is not ideal. Our idea is that there should be one common repository for crawl data that anyone can use. Researchers are using it for NLP, IR, sentiment analysis and many other things like measuring the adoption of metadata formats http://www.webdatacommons.org/ Educators are using it as a real world dataset to teach big data techniques in the classroom. The keyboard controls didn't work for me (apart from Escape), but I think it's because the game detects the plugged in joystick and prioritizes that.

When it comes to games, you can tell the difference between 30 fps and 60 fps. TV/Movies, No, you can't. Video games, yes you can.

I should of mentioned the reason why.

When you shoot video you capture single pictures. When people are moving in these shots, the have motion blur. How much motion blur depends on how fast they are moving and how many shots per sec you take. Our eyes see the motion blur and our mind fills in the rest, which is why we are okay with 24 & 30 fps for movies/videos.

When you do video games, each frame is smoother, doesn't have the motion blur that real life video would have. Granted, games started adding in motion blur, but it's not the same. This is why the more frames per sec generally make games look better and play better.

We did cover this in the Hobbit at 48fps submission.
