The best part is when they asked "Do you ever listen to your fans' opinions about this?" And he says "No."
It's a pity that we feel this compulsion to shove money down Lucas's throat.

Well, that was a double-edged question, really.
Had he said yes, then he might be construed by some as a sellout with no real vision of his own, who packages his art for maximum market value.
His answer struck me as a little cocky too at first, but when he finished his answer I felt I could respect his perspective.

So, you're basically admitting on slashdot that a tightly controlled, closed, proprietary development model has definite advantages over the open model. ;-)

Seriously though, imagine if Microsoft had complete control of the hardware specs - not that they don't have a lot of say already.
    It would be interesting.
I'd wager that PCs would be more stable than they are now : one of the first things to go would be the 15 IRQ limitation, and although PCI steering has done a somewhat commendable job of getting around that kludgenstein, it's not perfect.

Even the adage that it never stops growing all the way though old age, appears to be an urban myth. That was news to me, I'd always believed that. Really older people usually seem to have larger noses and earlobes, am I just imagining that ?

As much as I totally agree with your sentiment, there is a ring of truth in their claim, inasmuch as they don't seem to support linux all that heavily anyway. They really threw their weight behind Windows in 2000, as evidenced by anyone unfortunate enough (me) to have to deal with ARCserve 7 for NetWare, to which, it appeared for a couple of years, they were dropping support for. They didn't, of course, but anyone who enjoys managing ARCserve, particularly for any platform other than windows and probably including the version for windows, is reading this from their nice, cozy padded cell.

It wouldn't be the first time. The exposion of the island of Thera, near Crete, in 1628 BC, speculated to be up to 50 times more powerful and violent than Krakatoa, and is presumed by a lot of scholars to be responsible for the Egyptian plagues described in the Bible during the Exodus, and is thought to be Plato's suknen Island of Atlantis too. The effects were felt as far as China, which endured a 7 year famine and darkened skys. Some even presume it set back civilization 3000 years. A google search on Thera and Moses, or Thera and Krakatoa brings up tons of collaborating info. Nasty stuff.

Oh, I'll bet I know what happened.
I posted something last week on that Kerry/Fonda thread that did not smile favorably on the presidential hopeful, and after initially getting modded up, got modded down to 0, (even with reasons like "offtopic", which is complete bullshit),so I guess I made a shitload of enemies who mod based on political preference, not by objectivity, who will now and forever search for any posts by me when they have mod rights and will knock me down, no matter the topic of the thread or what I may contribute to it.
So fuck it, mod me down, one can only go so low, and my karma is already "terrible". So what do I have to lose ?
I'm sure this will get me troll and flamebait, hey, why not see how low my karma can get ? If you were to check my former few posts, it's evident that I've been reasonable and cool-headed, but this immaturity just blows it.
Maybe I should just become a troll and a nuisance, because that's what abusing mod power gets you ultimately, a bunch of trolls. Whoever modded the above post should be modded as "offtopic" at the least. Damn that felt good.
