  1. Re:operation of the air traffic control system on FAA Network Hacked · · Score: 1

It doesn't matter I'm afraid. The system is compromised because the people operating it are. The reason for this is simple, every piece of identifying information on those employees is leaked... Imagine what a decent social engineer could do with this information. Hell, with that information you wouldn't even need much talent to control the aviation systems. It's probably more stupid to attack this system from the network/computer vector because it's the most likely to be targeted.

Do you think the people putting these flyers on cars are the real authors. i could just as easily pay some little kid 40 bux worth of weed to go around that parking lot of that nice corporate office over there and put these flyers out :P

  3. Re:Open Source Old Games on Blizzard Answers Your Questions, From Blizzcon · · Score: 1

Totally a good point. If the Bliz releases the source of say, Starcraft: the most popular RTS game of all time, there is no telling what creative minds will pop up to expand the game to new heights. SC will be limited only to the creative minds of the avid fans. And I've seen some pretty spectacular hacks, it'd be interesting to see what happens when there's no need to go searching through memory for internal functions.

It's very nice they're finally rolling this out. I would like to see the AI try to scout out my bases before I just get surprised whomped :] very nice blizzard. Since blizzard is watching I would like to ask about and request an AI scripting system. There have been some previous attempts and hacks at this for SC but I haven't seen anything too clever. If you guys developed something like that in house I think it would be extremely fun.

Centralizing such a system seems like a bad idea. I mean sure it's shared but any portion would have a signficant amount of data a physical attack on one of these facilities could render say 1/X (where X is the number of facilities) amount of the net under the control of the attacker or terrorist. The whole point of arpanet was decentralized communication. Isn't this a bit backwards?

As said before for every application you use frequently: bind it. but dont forget to bind desktop management shortcuts and window management shortcuts such as shadow, send to desktop, , minimize, resize, change dekstop, etc.. I find that I usually need only one screen and 5 different fluxbox workspaces to carry out my tasks imagine what you could do with 2 screens! Fluxbox has tons of interesting window management commands that can be binded to keys, such as:
Stick, shade window (makes only the window's bad visible), Toggle Decor (removes the pesky window bar from the window), Kill, and others.

Again I think a firewall is an absoulte neccessity. How ever if the attacker has local access the odds increase in his/her favour dramatically. I think that if you would like to patch less the BSD would be a better choice (unbias opinion *cough cough*)

You are as safe as you make your server/system to be. If you don't patch you will get hacked and will not be safe. Same goes with windows, linux, Anything. Unless you have you're own OS that doesn't have patches :P. Can't stress how stupid it is NOT to put up a firewall blocking ports you really dont need open. Anything out of the box and kept that evil "default" setting Is bound to get h4x0r'd (hehe)
