as long as advertiser don't know that 80% of customers don't want a given channel, the cable company can charge the same advertising fee for that channel. Why would the cable company get rid of any channel if they could sell ads on it.. even if nobody ever watches it Just an educated guess.... wait a minute...I'm uneducated
If channel X is not attracting veiwers it must not be too good. If the only way it gets seen is if it has been bundled with more popular programming, then what would selling it ala carte do anyway. The cost of channel X is the cable companies problem if it can't sell ads on it. The cost of the channel won't go up because people aren't watching it. They bundle it to increase advertising potential..not because it's more expensive to operate with less veiwers. Bundling provides the lowest price because it maximizes the advertising potential and the cable company can get more ads on the air. More ads...more money. The programming is irrelevant to the big picture. I wonder why it's not free like TV used to be. Cable sucks anyway....How many times can someone watch the same thing over and over again? (e.g. Dicovery Channel)
because first it costs a fortune to hire a patent lawyer , second, if you don't have any money to sue someone that has infringed on your patent, it is pretty useless. Just make your products and save the money you would have had to spend on patents. Besides, only a "utility" patent is worth anything...a design patent can be rendered useless by changing one small detail of the product that is being copied.
Insightful comments....What an addition to the conversation. It seems You are typical of the quality posters on this site. Somebody writes some thoughts...You call them a moron. You look stupid. Try to ADD something to the world...

That said, There must be a reason for this short sighted approach... They Need Cash Quick... who are they...The Elite... why do they need money quick, so quick they would trade the future stability of the US economy for it... That's the real question. I agree...these are the paving stones for the research grants of tomorrow. First the idea must be supplanted in the minds of the public. People here on slashdot are no doubt smart enough to see the future...then I got my Masters' in Television Pshycology...
I certainly had a longer attention span as a child, but perhaps I wouldn't have if I was constantly exposed to programmes like that. I have to agree.. that nails it down. And I thought Teletubbies were just scary looking.
It seems more likely that someone is predisposed to have a condition like ADD and excessive TV watching just enhances the rate at which it develops. This is just another example of blaming a product because Johnny can't learn as fast as the rest of the kids and we don't want him to feel stupid. We should all just ignore this until something more interesting comes along.
I thought this was old news... American computer company(Alientel) supposedly created a storage device based on (I think) the same principle. Something like 12terrasomething. I found this after typing a google search for "Microsoft back engineering alien technology". I did as a joke but what I found was boyh credible and frightening. The guy who founded the company says he learned the concept from a drawing that NONE of the scientists at Bell knew anything about(he worked there at the time..1940's/50's). He says the first microchips were back engineered from debris that was snatched up by the Air Force at Roswell. He went on to create his own computer company which is now called Alientel. The funniest part is He says that those microchips were originally a weapon... that sends out DTE's (Disease Tranfer Emissions..or something like that) It was kinda funny and scary because I think the "Transfer Capacitor" as he called it, was just waiting for methods of manipulating electron orbits to further develop. If I got tricked by this guys story, I'd still have to tip my hat to him..it was an incredible read.
It all comes down to the current definition of life... surely you don't believe we have discovered all forms of life that exist? I, for one, believe there is more we don't know than what we think we know. Try to see my statements as wishful thinking or an idiots rant if they bother you. I have no formal training, I'm just some carpenter. Besides, didn't they call the lake an ecosystem... if it's just water and microbes why is it the whole system they are worried about? This is fun..I hope I don't look too stupid.
yeah that's true to a certain extent... but you have to be able to afford them. That's why I've only been using computers for three months. If the citizen is taxed too highly, these technologies become just out of reach to borderline poverty income earners like myself. Actually I don't feel that poor because NASA says there could have been water on Mars....
start with Giza...go to Cydonia...next PHI and phi... now onto all the great religions(Hindu,Bhuddist...)and if you still don't get it try to listen to one of the voices in your head
I think you should think a little bigger....the system of planets and the sun may be the equivalent of atomic particles in a life form we can hardly fathom. since the universe looks like it forms in a manner resembling the formation of life, it must be a life form. It is inevitable we will learn this... again.
while the employees probably didn't really earn the pay (couple of shrugs of the shoulders, quick wipe of the brow) it was owed to them by the contractual agreement they entered into at the time of employment. did that sound smart because I'm kinda stupid

We can type faster than we speak & read faster than we can listen.
What?
The music industry has had it too good...
They've been overpaid
Time for a little paycut
They are asking for it
Who's going to pay three bucks for a song ?
Seems like they're cutting their own throats
Perhaps you are a moron.
