All you need to do is combine specific gestures with spoken keywords, and you've got yourself a magically controlled laptop. Required equipment for Hogwarts comp-sci 101 course.
If this had come a few years earlier, they could have used it for spell casting in the the Harry Potter PC games.
I agree. I just bought a "Collector's Edition" of Charles Dickens stories. Nice leather binding, gold-edged pages, etc. I'm looking forward to sitting in my comfy chair with a cup of coffee and re-reading these stories. I have so little time to sit and read these days, it has become a special ritual to sit and read a paper book like this, turning the pages, smelling the leather and new paper, and getting lost in the story...
Don't these damn scientists watch TV? On a Doctor Who episode, a sample of blood was sent out on a probe, and the evil aliens used it to control everyone on Earth with that blood type. Now, with brain wave samples, they come back and turn us all into brain-sucking zombies just for their amusement. It will be the ULTIMATE zombie movie!
"why should we let microsoft get away with being evil even if it's the status quo?"
Huh? Microsoft is simply doing what it needs to do to maximize profits for its shareholders. Besides starting some campaign to change laws that would somehow affect Microsoft's way of doing business, you have no power to "let Microsoft get away" with anything. Not sure what you're getting at here.
When my 2nd daughter was a few months old, and my first daughter was 3, we bought a puppy at the local mall (I know, buying puppies in malls is not generally a good thing). As I walked through the mall pushing the baby stroller with one hand, holding the puppy in other, and my 3 year old tagging along, I was approached by at least 5 beautiful women who wanted to hold the puppy and praise my kids. It was so surreal I looked around for the hidden cameras.
Television is opium for the masses. If people are happily watching TV, they're not going to spend as much time thinking about the world around them. Keep the masses happy, and the actions of the government will not be questioned. American Idol becomes far more important that the US supplying arms to a third world country. A great read pertaining to television and mass media is "Amusing Ourselves to Death" by Neil Postman.
This makes me wonder if this could evolve to more general purpose 3-D searches, such as facial recognition, searching for a specific shape of car, suspect identification in a crowd based upon a combination of body shape, face, etc.
I'm 47. Have a family, 2 kids, job, house, etc. Working on my black belt in Okinawan Karate (Uechi-ryu style). My dad and I built our own Altair 8800 when they first arrived. I've been playing computer games from day 1. I love the shooters. Started with the original Wolfenstein and have played most of the better ones (and some of the really bad ones) since then. I'm currently playing Serious Sam 2 and Quake 4 single player, and will go to online play when I've finished them both. Don't ever see myself stopping. The only difference now is I don't have as much time to play, so if I get an hour or two in in the evening, I'm doing OK. Maybe I should start my own group - 2Ancient2WalkButCanStillMoveTheMouseAndClickToKill BadGuys.com
If you read the lawsuit PDF, you can see that they are suing the school for $250,000.
You just caused a serious flashback by mentioning the Data I/O 29A (with UniPak) ! I programmed many chips with that workhorse.
My favorite way to take notes, or to design something, is using yellow pads and a stack of sharpened pencils.
I've played dozens of shooters, but I always come back to Serious Sam if I have some time to kill. It's simple, and funny as hell.
Why don't you tell us what you REALLY think?
I love Clifford Simak. The writing sometimes comes across as deceptively simple, but the stories are memorable.

He's nobody's buddy, chum.
Don't be shy. Tell us how you really feel.
Best comment I've seen all day. Nearly lost my lunch...
Wow. That brings back memories. I loved that program.

Things that made SS great. Sam's voice. The humor. The music in some locations was fantastic. Carts.
