I try to work my web-apps in the MVC style -- or at least the "VC" style. The browser is the view, the only thing it gets sent is data to display. It is fairly simple to through a debugger up and see exactly how the server API works, but it's also fairly simple to ensure your API is only servicing valid requests and all data is being validdated/escaped/etc.
I'm getting more and more interested in Android -- especially as the newly redesigned XCode 4 is the worst IDE I've ever used -- but I am not going to read a review by someone who finds Obj-C a significant effort to learn from Java. That's a sign that you're a code monkey and not someone who has anything close to a deep understanding of programming; moving in either direction between Java and Obj-C is one of the dead-simplest transitions amongst distinct programming languages.
The concepts are virtually the same -- ok, exactly the same -- but the syntax of Objective-C, namely "message passing", took me some getting used to.
Interesting way things are going. Internet companies are slowly forcing us to host everything we "own" in the "cloud", while ISP's are slowly enforcing usage caps. At some point we won't have enough bandwidth to bandwidth to access anything.
I remember installing Chrome when it first came out and them almost immediately uninstalling it. Either it or Symantec EP had a bug, and the browser window would immediately crash. 9 versions later... these guys have made an absolutely incredible product. I simply don't know what I'd do without my bookmark sync. Their app store needs some work, though, right now it's more of a bookmark store.
Ubuntu uses the exact same installer that debian uses. Although dapper has a new live cd based installer which alhough needs a little polishing, works very nice. Quick too, I installed my entire system in about 15 minutes.
I find it pretty entertaining to get your d**k sucked to improve your health then cap the bitch in the head afterwards (Grand theft auto) but this.... sick, i mean sick.
My room mate the other day had a power point presention for a report due. He was going to go to the library at 5am to type this thing up. I was like.. Why? He said it was because he didnt have powerpoint. I gave him a crack Office 2003 CD and told him power point was there. He said he would never use software he didnt pay for, and gave it back. So I told him to goto openoffice.org, and get the free office suite. He asked me what that was, I took him to my desktop, and showed it to him. 20 minutes later he was making a power point in open office.
Paris released a memo saying they would fully support MS, and whatever decisions they made if the replaced the MS Word paper clip with a rendition of Jacques Chirac.
I work for the geek squad at Best Buy #601. Rebates are what we get most of our complaints about, except for service plans. Thats a different story. We would have definately heard about this. We just had our monthly "pep" talk (at 8am sunday morning) and nothing of this was mentioned. If i can confirm this, i will submit a slashdot story.
I currently work for the geek squad in my Best Buy, we have mostly idiots back there, but a few of us (including me) know what we are doing. But it does get really old when 99% of customers have adware and their internet doesnt work. So I get tired of talking to people in general.
Note: I recomment AMD over intel every day. and 99% of the customers tell me I am wrong because intel has higher clock speeds.
The average price for a full fledged office install is around $300 (i think) unless you have an educational discount. a 60 percent reduction in price would be $180. You wont find an office product other than ms higher than that.
I have a freind who is finishing up his masters, and starting his PhD in computer engineering at VT. I asked him about it and he simply said: "they haven't found anything do actually _do_ with it"
You have a point about planned obselences. However, the reason i buy new things is because they are better. If this new device is better i will buy, if not then i would not replace just because they changed the interface.
The consumer population will not go along with the idea of "sorry, your old device won't work. please buy a new one". Why do you think there are RS-232 ports on computers STILL, i havent seen a serial device in years. Two things could happen
MS does this, and everyone switches to firewire, or some other hot new standard
Manufacturers write drivers for there devices, and go on supporting them
IMHO, i think that manufacturers will just package generic USB drivers with there devices.

Bur-qua porn?
Aye. Hour north of here, only thing I've heard on the news for 2 months now.
It's a legitimate idea. Video games will go the way of the DVD as well and be streamed over the internet. Business models will need to adapt.
$45,000 for the implementation, and $39,955,000 in management bonuses.
The way they obfuscate and "minify" it, it might as well be in binary.

What i would like to see is a winamp style visualation feature. Just use a QVGA 16-bit color screen.
I know, you dont NEED it, but it would be better than picture support.
