    And since FreeDOS has an edlin-compatible edlin, it's possible to port it to *nix, use it in an xterm window, and middle-click paste into it. Of course, why one would want to go through something as painfully esoteric as that when vi and vim are so much better is beyond me, but still quite possible. :D

    And ANSI C is perhaps the best general purpose programming language out there. The C Programming Language ought to be required reading, if it isn't already.

    As for C++, it's C-- as far as I'm concerned. I honestly can't think of a more painful language to program in. Not even BF and Intercal are more painful than C++. And reading three books on C++ haven't helped.

    Good lord! And here I thought me getting a thousand spam a day was bad! (This from the days when I had Hotspam as my email provider.) That kinda got me a bit upset at them. I did really well controlling spam on my personal accounts since then, well enough for me to write a spam prevention how-to of my own.

    A Windows error made me reformat Linux. Yes, really. If I can't trust Windows to keep from forgetting what a NIC even is, while shelled into my Linux system during a system recompile (not Gentoo), which rendered said Linux system unbootable (no Bash), then how can I trust a Microsoft virtual machine to keep from crashing in a similar situation, shelled into a virtual Linux?

    Does it really matter? It's on the Internet, so it's accessible from any country.

    Just ask USA-based Linspire, Inc., if it matters. (Microsoft forced the company, then known as LindowsOS, Inc., to stop doing business in Benelux and with Benelux citizens -- no matter where in the world they had addresses -- under their former name.) The 'Net and absurdity-friendly countries mean that the court system of one country can be used against a 'Net-based company in another country, even if none of the parties involved have physical presences in the one country.

    Remember who they're targeting: whether directly or through their ISPs, the owners of zombied computers. People who are either too gullible to resist clicking on pop-ups in IE, too ignorant to realize the dangers ActiveX pose to their computers, or too dumb to understand even the most rudimentary online safety concepts, or that even online there's no such thing as a truly free lunch.

    I don't know about you, but I think "Operation anything" fits the bill perfectly in this case. You and I, we're not the ones whose acts they're out to clean up.

    Maybe with mainstream attention called to the problem, they'll finally start listening when their ISP tech support keeps telling them to at least turn on their friggin' firewalls and stop disabling their antivirus because of all the "stupid virus warnings."
