Linux memory usage is like goldfish -- it expands to fill the space available. It tries its best to make sure all your ram is always used (because unused ram is wasted ram.)

I've run firefox and OO just fine on 128 mb of ram; don't be misled by usage on higher-ram machines.

There would be NO APPLICATIONS. Mac programs are compiled for the powerpc architecture, so the binaries wouldn't work. Windows programs wouldn't work except through something like Wine, which won't work any better for Mac than it does for Linux.

The only apps you could use would be source-based unix stuff, which you can use on linux anyway, and many of which won't actually run on OS X without a lot of work first.

    So no...I wouldn't switch.

Despite my appeasement with Apple's platform,

You cannot keep appeasing Apple! Next thing you know it will annex Sun, then there will be illegal buildup of forces on the borderlands of IBM, until it all comes to a head in a blitzkrieg invasion of Novell, at which point the international community will no longer be able to just stand by. But by that point, Apple may be too large and mobilized to stop!

We can only hope that they foolishly open a second front with Microsoft, and that our overseas allies at Intel overcome their isolationism to come to our aid.
