That is spoken, truly, as a man who has never been forced to work for beans.
I'm working, making not enough cash to even survive on if I wasn't staying with my family, and you're telling me to not make it about the money? Well, it is. I need money to buy food, pay rent, and pay bills. It's all about the money.
Would I love to work at certain places over others? Sure. But beggars can't be choosers. Microsoft would be one of my higher choices, because I have heard it's a good place to work -- but regardless of that, when you've been workign for beans, and you get a job that pays you well, it's enough to make you loyal to that company.
I've gotten two dmcas. First one went to my shared hosting provider, who cut off my http, on a friday around 5pm, and it had to stay off until I could contact them monday.
Second time, I just got an email from my vps provider, linode.com, passing it along, and saying "handle it". I actually put up a forum thread on their site praising them for it.
If any of you want a good provider, go with Linode. The staff is great, service is great... no real negatives to it.
I've recieved a DMCA takedown notice before. Most aren't pretty. Personally, I never understood why most DMCA takedown notices were taken directly to ISP level, without even a word to the webmaster.
In this case, Google sent a nice letter, requesting they take it down, and even explaining why. This is far superious to any other company takedown letter I've ever seen.
2) unless the relevant law has this an an option, this is not an option. I realize that this sounds redundant, but it's true and important to keep in mind.
Dish uses a checksumming process. If you upload a binary that's not matching the checksum, it bails. I doubt this is about linking -- it's probably more about an executeable modified *at all* not running on the box due to checksum failure.
In my state (NC), at least, PG-13 is not a binding rating.
(Theoretically) A 7 year old could walk up and get into it without a parent. It's not like R, where it is enforced parental guidence, it's just a strong SUGGESTION.

HIRE ME!
I don't care if you ask about my momma, my momma's momma, or what. Tease my brain. Quiz me. Just give me a decent paying tech job.
We all bash on MS, but truth be told, most of us would take a job there if the price was right. Right now my price is low, haha.
I don't like text. I put none here. I'm burning karma. OMG WHEE!
I wasn't joking [nt] (although I'd take a +1 mod)
You may have posted AC, but God knows who you are.
Get your old PC up again @ http://oldos.org/ :)

Some of us LIKE playing with pre-pentium machines
I think that the gp's point was this:
If you have to ask what the reason is, you don't have one.
Yes -- same thing happened here.

In case you were wondering, here is a link to the first DMCA notice I recieved: http://www.oldos.org/history/oms/letter.htm. Of course, that was two years ago. We're back up, and legal at http://www.oldos.org/.
I must say... they really are, "not being evil".

That's what I meant. Make a law.
In races this close, call it a statistical tie, and run a revote.
You'll get a bigger turnout, and possibly a true outcome.
They're going to make hell freeze over, then blackmail satan into giving them Microsoft.
;)
Just kidding, but right after hell freezes over, I might just be installing OSX on my AMD chip
Wouldn't it be freedom 2.x for america considering the fact we had the Articles of Confederation which failed miserably.
Ninja Gaiden is so hard that on the "Hard" difficulty, ninjas actually come to your house and kick your ass.

Dish Network has proven time and time again to be less evil than most cable companies and definately less evil than Direct TV.
Why couldn't you have posted this when I had mod points.... BRILLIANT!
N.C. does :)

Something like:
.odw =word processor
.ods = spreadsheet
;)
Kinda that layout. I'm too lasy to load up OOo Beta and see for sure
(burning karma)
I LOVE it when I have the 10th post and I'm redundant. Wow, I must try awfully hard. Good job, mods. Keep slashbotting.
