    The only metal that would be molten at the appropriate temperature would be Mercury. Putting Mercury in a CPU cooler would probably have a high risk of leakage, and killing ppl with mercury poisoning.

    Linspire *does* have a "setup your computer" window come up. One of the buttons on it is to create a user account.

    Not perfect, but not as egregious as it was in Linspire 4.5 either.

    I didn't read anything in the gp post about lawyers. A normal person can spend the small amount ($20?) to file a Small Claims court complaint, and usually if you have a decent case, you can win.

    It's not fud...

    did you look at the FF rendering and the IE rendering? Neither is perfect, but the IE rendering is absolutely horrid.

    Yeah, can you say DSL+satellite?

    Meanwhile, 30 minutes away, Time Warner customers get tele+tv+internet for $150, including unlimited long distance.

    No use in having competition if the competition sucks THIS BAD.

    "Back in my day, PDA meant Public display of affection!" You know, I work at a school system as a security guard, and saw two kids basically humping each other in the lunchroom. I walk up to the Asst Principal and say "What's your policy on PDA?..." she said "Well, as long as they keep them under their clothes so you can't see it it's okay"...

    Talk about an alkward moment :-!

    There is no java for linux outside of x86. THAT is a major problem with requiring java.

    Not to be a troll, but, well, nobody (not meaning OOo devs, meaning *anybody*) cares much about non-x86 linux. I know OOo doesn't have an official build for PPC linux, and I doubt there ever will be.

    Microsoft no longer has a JRE -- they were forced to stop it, because of the DOJ.

    And most desktop computers, windows at least, have sun JRE, because 90% of gaming sites require it.

    Apparently nobody has cared to complain to the marketing people. Not that I want them to, lol.

    Java is free, people. Java is probably already on most desktop computers. Sun gave us OOo, and still do 75% of the programming. Unless you're willing to reprogram the Base, HyperSQL, and the other components that require java in C++, then don't complain.

    You're getting an office suite, which, while it admittedly isn't perfect, it's definately the best *value* out there.

    This is a new *profile* version. Profile versions change things. Like default packages (one of the 2004 releases changed "x-window-system" to be xorg-x11 by default, for example).

    New profiles mean more than just installers.

    It's happened to me once.

    Of course, I also had my *current* boss (at the time) give a ridiculously good reference, even though she knew it meant losing me.

    I greatly disagree. With 2.0 coming out, we have an Access killer app, OOo Base, which should round out the suite. I think given all considerations -- open standards, feature completeness, cost -- that OOo comes out on top everytime.

    The first half-day of the conference was an OpenOffice.org RegiCon (Regional conference), and yet there was no mention of them in the article? That's a HORRIBLE summary of the DLS, coming from someone who was there every second of the thing.

    Until I see a game developed by an AAA game developing company rated at a 1 or a 0, their ratings hold no power in my book. If they think all high-budget games are "excellent" to the point of having 9.x ratings out of 10, then I certainly don't trust their opinion.

    Just to clarify, Open Office(tm) is a trademark of some company somewhere in commercial land. The software most of you use is OpenOffice.org(tm). Please refer to it as such.
