Just a little more juice and some steering and this thing could be orbiting the earth for a bit of time...yeah it would get cramped after an hour or two of orbiting but hell...it could damn near dock with the international space station and switch people out once every two weeks...just shoot them up there when they are wearing a freaking space suit and instead of two people in the back pack equipment...and send them back with all the trash:-) (and yes i know there would have to be some serious modifications...but im sure they could add a gps some auto pilot and have the shuttle thing open while in spae...or something...they are veeeeery smart)
This is very beautiful. This is a first of something to ever occur and the gates will open. Notice how much the price has already dropped? From $200,000 already to $100,000.:-)
Along these lines is where the world is moving. Why would you ever even concieve that DVDs would be here in ten years? Do you not have the belief that our ability to manufacter flash memory into the terabytes won't arrive in due time and with a cheap pricetag? Now, i will take into account that 2010 is only 6 years away (not that huge a time gap now a days...scary eh?)...I am still waiting for my hologram cube that will hang on my keychain and only work in conjunction with a spoken word pattern as well as whatever cool security gadget gets invented...that i then plug into whatever "player" i want that has a nice oled attached and run my computer from there...
Who teh hell will want a dvd when i can lay my h-gram up against the IR slot of the data player upload the movie from my cube and sit back and enjoy?
Lay it on the IR plate that is built into my new data player and it can read the section of the h-gram which has my music and of course it is all shown on the browseable tv screen integrated into the media center.
Touch my wireless headphones against my cube and the are synched and stream music to em...so cool...so very cool...
Now...i guess I must again take into account the year 2010...but dammit it should be here.
Things like this are among the things that move our entire world forward. Maybe not as big as landing on the moon within ten or anything...but, we are about to plunge a highly sensitive instrument into the atmosphere of a moon that is a solid distance away. It amazes me sometimes what we as a race are able to create and act upon. Our thoughts coming to fruition.
This is the type of advance that could show us life. As I have said before...that time when we do discover and know of the existence of a growing reacting and whatevering life form will be a very bright day.

I really would wonder what the entire reasoning was internally at M$. Is this purely a PR move that also just happens to greatly benefit them in that they don't deal with the negative privacy activists as well as the embarrassment of a slow but steady stream of workarounds to get out of the lockout problem anyway? Or even the benefit of the fact that the fewer screwed up computers there are the better they look.
Maybe they believe they have done something truly well with this OS. Win98 sucked. Win98SE sucked a LOT less. They do have a lot of talented developers who can do some considerable damage to any problem.
Or is there someone who has considerable power over a decision like this with a true altruistic nature.
Their PR people are real good man...they said everything that was to be said. Touched on all the topics...
Show me this research. Everyone says they know where this research is and I hear it quoted often but being as how I am not one who is medically inclined I have no idea where to begin to properly research that topic.
I don't ask in a combative manner...more in a manner that I want to be educated.
But if you can't show the goods...don't throw the "facts"
This is one of the thing which I think will power the future (no pun intended). This particular unit though is in teh infancy of its scientific growth. In 20 years (maybe more or less who knows with certain technologies and random descoveries) everyone will have their own mini fusion reactor to power their own living units. "The power grid" will no longer make reference to homes but street lamps or something...if we are even in need of lamps being as how we most likely wont be controlling our vehicles.
As with everything we need ot preach patience (especially things like fusion energy) but don't lose faith in technology and its promise...we really don't know how far away something like this is.
These are the things which will move the world forward. The small wonderous discoveries which can actually change and fix things.
This example in particular is very simple and will have a smaller effect but it can potentially have a very vital effect on those in the region.
Other things like this will come around and some of them are going to have an amazing effect. I can't even define what that invention will be obviously...but maybe someone will someday make the air to electricity machine from Atlas Shrugged?
With computing power slowly ramping up and in some time nano technology being moved to a consumer level in combination with the printing of electronics (if we really even need that...with true control over molecular movements we technically could create whatever we wanted in a nice little microwave or whatever - a la star trek - and it really isn't all that science fiction...its just time and patience and some science)
People could soon be inventing the most amazing things in their own homes on random weekends...each of us will become research and creation experts...
Now we don't even have to wait to get to a planet to piss away its surface with polution and shit we don't need. Now we can charge obscene amounts of money and do it...w00t!
One a secondary note...if you were really worried about your legacy standing the surface of earth in 100 years after we finish with this planet then you could potentially safely store a whole bunch of things...DNA, booze, *nix admin bible...
What other advancements in browser tech have you seen to change your perspective on your internet gateway?
I personally am a big fan of the recent firefox drop down search bars. And of course tabbed browsing is really nice...not really sure who first implemented it.
Anyone have an idea as to what will be the next big bwoser innovation? Will it be sound controlled browsers that work well and fast for the masses?
The internet browser really is something significant. It is our gateway to knowledge. Kinda like the TV screen was way back in the day.:-) What really amazes me when I see the future of the internet is the ability for it to truly deliver us information that we want when we want it. And it will be a thoughtless process as we get computers and software which can properly build a database of our past experiences and gives us choices and desires that we really want. Computing will be amazing. But, the browser is what rules now. Amazing interesting little innovations have made my browser experience that much better. The little drop down search menu's, tabbed browsing, the download manger and whatever else I missed from the land of Mozilla actually make me look forward to what they are going to do next to make my browsing experience richer and faster.
I really am wondering what will be the next advance that makes my browsing that much better. What things do you people use that make your browsing better? I can't wait to play with this little toy when it or something similar is out for Win32.
Long live new stuff that has a purpose. Innovation.
It is slowly coming closer. The day we actually find that source of life on another planet. It is beautiful and logical and perfectlly of sense to understand and grasp that we will some day find life, but the day we actually do discover it. That will be an amazing day simply for the achievement. Though anything we find on mars will be very simple (single celled things? bactiera? virii?) it will nonetheless be something.
Size has absolutely no reason being in this conversation. It all depends on what we call a planet. Is a planet something that came toghethor due to a conglomerating of a large number of rocks and the such due to gravitational pulls in a protoplanatary disk? If that is what a planet is (by definition) then this is or isn't a planet...depending on how it was formed. This is stupid to have a system which is based upon judgement and not simple facts. Why is pluto a planet? Because we deemed X-size a plenet? I don't know...
Anyone know?
