We already have more prisoners than CHINA who's population is SIX TIMES greater, and who's government is generally considered to be WAY TO HARSH and NOT FREE.
That's because in china criminals get the firing squad. Oh, and they invoice the family of the deceased with the cost of the firing squad too, so no taxpayers' money there...
With Macs, Apple knows that the customer is "stuck". Quality isn't as important, as the customer has already invested in software and training that is Mac-specific.
I do not think it is as much as an issue that Apples Quality Dropped but just the fact their entire Macintosh Product Line is now Generation 1, systems. Normally Apple Spaces out their system releases and refresh their product line in 3 year cycles. This time they did major changes internally to their entire product line. Normally the rule of thumb is to wait for Gen 2 but with all their products Gen 1 there is little to choose from. The MacBook Pros seem to get some minor fixes.
I for one do not fly direct Singapore to LA using one of those new super jumbo Airbus jetliners because they are generation 1 jets. I do not buy a newly released car because it is a generation 1 vehicle. I do not buy a new technology flat screen TV because it is.. guess what? Generation 1!
See the flaw in this kind of thinking? Other companies can release decent products first time round, why can't Apple? If Apple would stop behind so anal about their PeeCees (yes, I meant PCs, Apples are PCs now with just a big brother chip, that's all) and actually has a more comprehensive use testing program, would this issues have surfaced? No! Instead they act like a new power cable is the world's greatest thing and keep everything secretly under wraps, meanwhile fleecing customers on outdated hardware (just so nobody knows something new is in the works!)
If you do work for Apple, could you do me a favor and suggest making a camera-less MacBook a BTO option?
How about suggesting that a security seal be affixed over the cameras of those who just had to own such a device? Works in the military anyway at least.
But the most significant aspect in many cases is pollution. A big part of the cost savings is that these companies can go someplace they can pollute all they want. When the country becomes more wealthy and the laws change, they pull out, sell most of their equipment for scrap and ship it out of the country so no one can use it, and leave behind a big dirty smoking hole full of pollutants.
Good thing the Chinese are already smarter than that, with every business partnership in China having a majority Chinese ownership, good luck selling your "equipment for scrap", they will simply get rid of you and find another willing partner.
How do you feel about pirating Mac OS X in order to do this? Or do you justify it by saying that you *would* buy it if Apple sold it, but they don't, so you have no choice? (And what if Apple's pricepoint for selling it on NON-Apple hardware was, say, $399? Would that be "too high", so you'd still have to pirate it?)
At $399 it would actually be cheap if you consider the markup they have on some of their inferior overheating mooing and whining hardware.
Bad guess. These business students were working professional working on MBAs, not drunken frat boys. The study was supervised by a professor and doctoral candidates who *are* hired by major corporations to do just this sort of thing.
It all sounds good, so where are your reference?
Oh wait, you don't have any. In fact these professors and PhD students only live in your arse.
I see. I don't know, I keep all of my mail on my server and sync with IMAP. Whatever format Apple keeps it in Mail.app doesn't really matter to me (clearly it matters to this Mark guy though). If it did though, I'm not sure how it would be taken hostage (unless I guess if I used it for local mail storage or something). Anyway though, more power to him if he wants to switch his whole OS because of changes in an application bundles with it (as opposed to switching to using Thunderbird or whatever). I'm just saying I probably wouldn't change OS's based on changes in bundles apps, but that's just me.
Does your mail server happen to have gigs of storage just for your mails? Because that is what you are going to need if you are to rely on your IMAP server as a long term mail store.

OH RLLY? HOW CAN I RUN MY CLASSIC APPS ON X86 MACS?
Stop drinking the koolaid for a moment and answer that.
You can wipe the drive completely and do a clean install of OS X from any retail version.
Ahh.. but you DID have MacOS X originally installed right? Try getting a Mac without MacOS installed. By the way the terms of the EULA for MacOS states explicitly that it can only be installed on an Apple branded computer.
Upgrades require that you have a previous version of the operating system already on your drive.
Says who? Microsoft? Since when do other companies dictate Apple's decisions?
Sure, if you get a Macintosh you already have a previous version, but if ever something happens like a hard drive crash, you can just do a clean install. Windows upgrades require you install the previous version first then the upgrade in circumstances like that, or else use a full installation version.
Because it is quieter. Seriously, Apple knows how hot those chips run, they had two options - paste them up, let them get hot (so long as it isn't damaging) and get a quieter laptop or - put the right amount of paste and get a cool laptop that runs its fan all the time.
Are you an idiot or what? Or perhaps you are so blinded by your fanboism?
Perhaps you really should reread your post and see for yourself just how stupid it is.
This doesn't make sense because their volume is not up. As mentioned upthread, these laptops are manufactured by Asustek, and Asustek has a huge volume already.
Actually no, Asustek is contracted to make the consumer notebooks. The high end varieties are made by Quanta.

Oh Relly? Where is the source for Aqua then?

That's Apple for you.
At $4000, any food tastes good...

Has the added bonus of squelching the burst too.

Bill Gates liquidates all assets of Melinda & Gates Foundation and vanishes into thin air as the World's richest & second richest man...
>>Actually, the Liberal Arts degree ask, "Do you want me to use a rubber," because they actually get laid once in a while.
Considering the others can actually afford to pay for Rent-A-Vagina services I consider that a fair trade off.
Now go away, or I shall taunt you a second time!
Taunt all you want. He makes more money while shitting in his toilet this morning than you probably will even dream of making in TEN years.
Think about that.
Before you guys get too excited and wet your pants read again, it says "Up to"
In other news Intel slashed 60% off the selling prices of 286 processors and 1% off the latest Core chips.
And then MS will sell you the service of packaging, burning and shipping Windows to you for the low low price of $200...
Oh don't worry, I will help myself.

Your point being?
Bender? Who cares about Bender... I for one, bow down to our new constantly barfing alcohol burnin' Myomer driven BattleMechs!
If Apple releases the MacBook, it will be available THAT DAY. The same can't be said for Nintendo.
As with the Macbook Pro released in Jan, which took 2 months to ship right?
The shiny stenciled "MacBook Pro" logo that is below the LCD, as well as the white Apple logo that is behind the LCD.
*tongue in cheek*
By the way Apple can't even AFFORD to owns its own manufacturing plant. Get your facts straight.
