That list in turn is both hosted on the adblock plus domain, you can find the timestamp of the last update (2 days ago) and find the activity level of the forum (frequent replies by list owner). Adblock Plus and Filterset.G. That's not recommended to quote the Adblock Plus webpage:

Do I need to install Filterset.G Updater?

No. Actually, it is recommended not to use Filterset.G with Adblock Plus. There are several reasons for this:

            * Filterset.G has been intentionally made incompatible with the built-in subscriptions feature in Adblock Plus, updating Filterset.G requires a separate extension which basically duplicates existing functionality.
            * Filterset.G is not optimized for use with Adblock Plus, it will slow down your browsing considerably more than any other filter list.
            * Filterset.G makes heavy use of very complicated regular expressions with the consequence that finding the source of problems is difficult and fixing those problems is even more so. In fact, Filterset.G is fixing most problems with exception rules which creates a problem on its own (see next point).
            * Filterset.G contains a considerable number of exception rules. This is a big problem because exception rules cannot be overridden. It happened on several occasions that exception rules from Filterset.G whitelisted actual ads making these ads unblockable -- something users usually blamed Adblock Plus for.

While Filterset.G has had its uses in the past, nowadays other filter lists are certainly a better choice. If you already have Filterset.G Updater installed, you can uninstall the extension and remove the Filterset.G subscription in the Adblock Plus Preferences dialog. Feel free to choose any subscription from the list then.

In relation to the last part it needs to be noted that many Europeans would probably find US tv bans on nudity to be beyond absurd.

The story only says they are "virtually banned" and doesn't explain further which either means there are valid reasons (but telling them wouldn't get you a slashdot link) or this isn't an official ban (ie: no one wants to air this group for fear of pissing of someone in power).

As someone else pointed out in another comment (I totally forgot about this myself given how little of a damn I give about this topic) you are perfectly free to run any version in any VM. You simpyl can't run it both in a VM and as a standalone install. So if all you need is a few programs then you are perfectly free to run any version you want. If you also want to run it under say boot camp then you need to buy either two copies or a more expensive version.

At least unlike OS X I can actually run windows under any system be it in a VM or natively without breaking the license (and having to jump through hoops).

  13. Not this again. on MS Requiring More Expensive Vista if Running Mac · · Score: 5, Insightful

First of all this story is weeks if not months old, and a dupe to boot. Second of all this applies only if you run vista in/as a virtual machine not if you install on a mac that also has virtulization (for another OS say). In other words you can use boot camp to boot to your heart's content but can't run the cheaper Vista version in a VM under OS X just like everyone else in the fucking world who wants to run vista under a VM.

I mean what the hell is up with Apple users and their inferiority/persecution complexes? This applies to all VMs and likely the number of non-mac users running windows under a VM (developers, linux users, etc.) is far larger than the number of Mac users who'd be doing it.

When I was in high school one "trusted student" grabbed a few pairs of master keys to various things, another grabbed the master student database (classes, addresses, default passwords, etc.) and the passwd file for the school (and promptly cracked half of it) while a few others kept putting quake 2 on various servers. Libraries are very limited in terms of physical assets due to funding for example, they cannot keep things like scientific journals and articles on hand. The information they have is likewise out of date as current events or methods may be lacking. I don't expect a HS library to for example have books on the newest version of Linux, Unix, Python, MySQL, Perl, Ruby or even C++ (if the application or libraries are new or updated).

Older information is hard to access due to begin stored on mcirofilm with a limited index (if any) and most likely is no longer updated anyway (due to costs for example). My HS library for example had access through subscriptions (donated I think) to the last 100 years worth of articles from dozens if not hundreds of indexed newspapers and journals.

I'm sure they could have done this in the old days, they'd simply need to have spend an extra dozen hours at is they went to the city library, the local college (and trying to get access), contacted people who may have access to the information (and first finding them, remember no email or internet searching allowed), etc.
