ANA (All Nippon Airways) have normal plugs built into each seat. power comes on as soon as you're airborne, so does the internet - and guess what, it all works seamlessly. they'll even lend you a LAN cable if you haven't brought your own - and they also have great service. a bit expensive but well worth it if you fly Tokyo - NY.
One question for the boffins then: what kind of coffee is more effective? The rich, tasty stuff that Europeans drink, or the brown-coloured water the Americans seem to prefer? Just wondering - because if it's the latter, there's something wrong right there.
pirated copies of the World Cup games are going to operate like this anyway. I'm sure The Pirate Bay has many busy days in front of it
er...not sure how things operate where you live, but in most countries the World Cup in broadcast live on regular TV (otherwise there would be riots). quite why one would need to snag copies off the net, when one can go to the pub to watch the game with mates, is beyond me.
hear hear same problem here. and no, I do not want to disable search while typing, I just want to be able to type in a form box and not have the search box pop up, so I have to restart the browser. glad to hear other people are having to go through this as well, I thought I was the only one. well, not glad...
No Skype fanboi here, but MAN is their video and audio quality better than YM. Absolutely no comparison, whatsoever. The Yahoo servers are down most of the time and video simply refuses to work ('server too busy, try connecting later'), or when it does it's all choppy and frequently crashes the whole app - as for audio, it really isn't all that good. Haven't looked back since Skype released version 2.0 with added video, it works perfectly for me, under any circumstances. Mind you, I'm only talking about PC to PC calls, so I'm basically complaining about something that is free, so this may conceivably be slightly off topic - but no less true. Ever since YM went from version 6 to 7, it all went downhill for them - the only good thing about it is the photo sharing and file transfer feature (which work WAY faster than Skype), and the basic chat. Video and audio - forget about it.
Dude, I'm sure many people have mentioned this to you by now, but here it goes again: try QCD Player, www.quinnware.com The lightest player yet, and very easy to use if you are a WinAmp man.
Use it or I'll tell the RIAA about your 200 gig collection:)
Dude. I believe I speak for a large number of people here and there and everywhere: don't mention that place on a public forum. Just...don't. It's too good a thing to ruin. Mum's the word, yes? Thank you.
Not to sound like a spoilsport, but you are not entirely right. I work for the main supplier of Mazda chassy parts, and I can see their main Hiroshima plant out the window as I type this. You are right about Mazda using the same platform as Ford and Volvo for the Mazda 3 and the Mazda 6 - it is the very reason the whole concept of a common platform was pushed by Ford. As a matter of fact, the C1 platform (Mazda 3/ Ford Focus/ Volvo S40) has been performing extremely well, and is also selling very, very well. The RX-8 (which, incidentally, just got a facelift as RX-8 Sport Prestige Limited II) shares no parts with any other model, and we went through a lot of trouble designing the chassy parts because the Mazda engineers kept coming up with more insane requirements (which, needless to see, we fulfilled rather nicely, thank you very much). Now, on to the Ford thing. You would be surprised at the amount of a. respect and b. power Mazda people have inside the Ford group at the moment. Consider for a second that, while Ford is firing 30,000 people and losing money by the truckload (400 USD per car? google it up), Mazda have just posted their biggest profit EVER. And this has not happened because they are part of the Ford group, but in spite of it. Ford is now seriously looking to emulate Mazda's methods before they go down for good (they could start by designing better-looking cars, I think), and the joke around the Mazda headquarters these days is 'hey, maybe we should use some of that cash to buy out Ford!' Mazda is definitely Mazda, and just happens to have Ford as a shareholder. Once you understand this distinction you will understand why they are doing so well./fanboi rant
Yep, in Hiroshima. Weird doesn't beging to describe it - I left the Apache conf file EXACTLY as it was during the Yahoo days, switched to 100 Mb, forwarded port 80, error error error. Haven't been able to fix it since, although I tried various ways. A friend up in Tokyo tried to help, but sadly it was over the phone and we gave up after a while:( Need to get him to come over and help me, otherwise I'm site-less and my mates back home can't download all those MP3's...sorry, photos of the baby:)
Hey mate, Hiroshima calling. One quick question I REALLY hope you can answer: have you managed to set up Apache, or any HTTP server, on the 100 Mb line? I used to have the 8 Mb Yahoo thinggy, and Apache worked like a charm with no tweaking of the router or anything, except the upload was pitiful; switched to the power company (Energia in our case), 100 Mb line, torrents are FLYING, the upload speed is wicked good, I managed to set up the router for all the programs (chat, torrents etc) but the ONLY thing that doesn't work is the HTTP server. Forwarding port 80 does nothing (are they blocking it?), changing the server to a different port does nothing either. It's enough to drive one insane. Can't find a solution, for the life of me. Would appreciate it if you had any advice? Cheers in advance. D
Bummer, rough deal. Try Japan: 100 Mb both up and down. 35 USD/month, no caps, wicked good. Oh, and it includes VoIP telephony as well. Which is why sticking to private BT trackers is a good thing, I can afford the uploads and my ratios are pretty good.
Why the hell would someone want to restrict themselves to a small group of file sharers ?
Mate. You've obviously never been a member of a serious, hardcore BT site. Restricting membership and being strict about ratios works because a. it keeps the leeches away. It really does. b. the speeds are fantastic, since everyone is very interested in seeding for weeks and weeks. c. one quick request in the forums and you're guaranteed to find ANYTHING you want. no matter how obscure the album/performer/version. If you're serious about music, this is the best thing about private trackers. And no, I won't tell you which sites are like that, I value my invites:)
If you need porn, go to the usenet.
hey man, got a link?

In theory I'm not going to buy the PS3
Guess that means that in practice you will then?
Dude. If you think I'm clicking on that flash thinggy while at work, you've got another thing coming.
Nice try though.

I never thought I'd live to see the day when Citizen Kane is quoted on Slashdot, but there it was, and modded up, too.
There might be hope after all.

that DVD torrent you've been downloading for 6 hours
Dude, I've got 100 Mb fiber, it only takes me one hour to snag a DVD.
oink oink

Do AOL dialup users read slashdot?
No.
14.4k was for the rich, and we were lucky enough to even own a computer
Luxury! We only had an abacus each, which we tried together with string!
Say I own an FC33, can you hook me up with parts? lol jk
:)
FC33, whoah. More than ten years old, we'd have to pull out the old drawings and make new dies.
How rich are you?

Addiction is not necessarily bad.
That is precisely what an addict would say.
