According to the article it's not a confirmation at all. Microsoft has released no official statments about hardware requirements, these values are just estimates from developers, who may or may not have a clue.
wouldn't that necessitate Microsoft users to have a clue?
I'd have to disagree with you on that. Most high end (popular) games begin with some very high poly models, and then optimize and reduce the number of polys. It's a bit naive to think that game developers are still designing models polygon by polygon.
The worst thing about today's games is that they're developed almost exclusively by men. "Theory" is actually much too strong of a word, as it's really nothing more than a hunch.
I didn't know it was some big secret. I'm too lazy to look up actual figures on this. But its hard enough to find female gamers, or female programmers, let alone someone who decides to combine those two. Personally, I'd love to see more females in the art. Perhaps games would be able to produce a more emotional impact w/ the player. But alas, this is something that does not appear to be happening. But don't complain about it, there is nothing stopping females from entering the industry.

I think you are putting a blanket over your eyes there.
Several reasons, these tools do not make it as easy as you'd think. Even w/ Tokemak, and some Open source graphics engine, you still have to code in a LOT of things to tie them all together. After that you still have nothing as far as controlling gameplay. No event scripting, nothing.
Ignoring that whole argument, it comes down to popularity. Mods gain in popularity much faster than original works. Mod developers can leech off of the publishing works done by the game developer. (I say this while looking at a Blueshift ad on the back of my Halflife Game of the Year edition cd case.)
so less time, more publicity, and possible recognition from larger developers. Seems like modding would be the way to go to break into the industry. Though i'd still suggest doing some independant work to learn how all the different parts tie in together.

people have been genetically engineering things since the dawn of domestication. You think the cows you eat today are the same as they were once in the wild. Or perhaps look at the many varying breeds of dogs that exist today. Genetic engineering is no more than selective breeding on a very very direct level.
People attempting the proofs are no less vulnerable to making mistakes than those who wrote computer software to develop the proofs. Thus a system to verify the proofs should be in place for both groups of people. Any person working on a doctoral discertation will have their work reviewed by a board. Any proof generated by a computer shout too be reviewed by a board before it can be considered correct.
I don't see where the issue is.
Nothing gets rid of spyware better than a good old fashion formatting. Since your parents aren't really doing anything useful on their computer (I mean lets face it, what good is a pc, other than for gaming:-p), just make an image of their harddrive after you get it tweaked. And make a ghost every month or so. Its more effective than adaware, and much more fun than defragging.

is how the disc burning software detects that you have their proprietary CD. I'd assume some sort of data on either hte top or bottom of the CD that the Drive must read before allowing it to tatoo the cd.
I agree. I think many labels you print off with the "CD labelling software" tend to look rather amateur. I would definitely consider buying something like this if I wanted to showcase software I had written to friends or potential employers.
Well, at least if you make another coaster out of a CD you are trying to burn, You can at least pass it off as some new age art movement.
Hell, get a spindle of these things, and you even have your coaster holder:-p.
I pretty much figured that would be the case. The data on a CD is stored very close to the label. If you have a CDR you don't mind wasting you could scratch part of the label and see that it goes straight to the plastic protective layer.
I imagine the special CD's have an extra layer between the top and the data layer that does not exist on a normal CDR.
/.ing wasn't so nice for this site i guess?

three-dimensional graphics rivaling those on PC's and game consoles.
I don't know, it seems that there aren't enough pixels on a cell phone screen to rival any console or pc.. the resolution is just too low.

there is something on the internet that makes the slashdot crowd feel like they are normal people :-D

nothing against Java it has its place, but for something this CPU intensive, it seems like you'd be wasting CPU cycles. This sounds like a job for C.

For some reason, I would think God's wrath is much more impressive than lighting up a few telephone wires in a city who's population is 39.
