  1. Re:instance significant events on MMOG Designers Throw Down Over Instancing · · Score: 1

that wont work, for 2 main reasons.

    1. people will no longer have any competition for the unique items. thus the unique item will be more attainable, making that unique item less valuable.

    2. more unique monsters will obviously have to exist, 1 unique monster per each instance, increases the number of unique item drops from that monster. The rarity of that item is then increased linearly with whoever seeks that item.

To remedy #2, the chance of drop could be lowered, but that would just frustrate gamers more. If you think you have to kill for a long time to get a unique item in modern MMORPGs, imagine how long it would take if the drop rate chance was divided by the number of other players also looking for that item.

I'm mad at my current living situation, so I'm going to burn down 'my own neighborhood', i've never understood the logic in that, and cant bring myself to try to reason with a person who thinks that way.

  21. The facts on Hot Coffee Content Within GTA Confirmed · · Score: 2, Insightful

"So far we have learned that the "hot coffee" modification is the work of a determined group of hackers who have gone to significant trouble to alter scenes in the official version of the game," reads the statement. "In violation of the software user agreement, hackers created the 'hot coffee' modification by disassembling and then combining, recompiling and altering the game's source code. Since the 'hot coffee' scenes cannot be created without intentional and significant technical modifications and reverse engineering of the game's source code, we are currently investigating ways that we can increase the security protection of the source code and prevent the game from being altered by the 'hot coffee' modification."

how is this statement issued by R* incorrect? The mod works by editing the main.scm file(the mission script). R* intentionally removed the scenes from the game before release. The mod (even though simple) edits a flag that re-enables this feature. In effect Patrick had to reverse engineer the main.scm file, and edit copywritten materials.

Regardless of the amount of actual editing that went into making this mod (i believe it was a single bit), the time it took to find and edit the content to enable a feature that R* did not intend for release completely supports their statement. Nowhere in their statement did R* say that the content was not originally ingame. (It'd be tough to argue that considering the file was a single .scm file) much less than would be required to manipulate animations and textures in the game.

My only point is this. People often diminish the importance of these other states. Especially those from New York and California. I often get the impression more that Californians (especially) think less about people from rural areas.

that map shows 20 states voted for gore and 30 voted for Bush. But people sometiems forget a great chunk of our population lives in NewYork and California.

If you do some research into how the electoral college works, it is precisely to protect these smaller populated rural states. A strictly popular vote could potentially be hazardous to the longevity and more specifically the wealth of these states.

Anyways, even disregarding that, people seem to act like this is the only incident where this has happened. Which is completely not true

FOUR PRESIDENTS won the presidency but lost the popular vote: Andrew Jackson won the popular vote but lost the election to John Quincy Adams (1824); Samuel J. Tilden won the popular vote but lost the election to Rutherford G. Hayes (1876); Grover Cleveland won the popular vote but lost the election to Benjamin Harrison (1888); Al Gore won the popular vote but lost the election to George W. Bush (2000).
