Sapkowski is a great Polish fantasy (okay not a sci-fi) author to name one. In my opinion equals to Zelazny.
From the search on Amazon it seems like english speaking world don't have a chance to read anything of his yet. ('The Hexer' based on his stories may have english subs but it is one really bad movie)
Actually there is one 'tricky' answer not violating your requirements:

I've always dreamed about installing windows which will work the way most computer literate people set it: auto-hiding toolbar no animated menus/windows no creepy begginners popups or wizards PDF reader notepad in 'send to' submenu plus obvious things like button in file manager to start command line in that dir etc etc
It is spooky enough for me when I see a sci-fi movie where you can hear shots fired in space.
And people manually driving fighter ships or aiming guns at other ships (double you tee eff they have no computers?). And old robots cracking codes in seconds in order to open some door. And tiny planes size of cessna refuelling some chemical and able to land/takeoff on a planet. And ubiquity of oxygen. And some 'force shields' around ships and abundance of them around compounds.
SW and science/common sense don't compute for me. Didn't they mean sociology of cultures presented in the movies?
that Firefox, flagship success of OSS community is overhyped. Every other day on slasdot. Common. It is nothing special. Just a browser with tabs. Lots of bugs.
Yea I'll troll: if MSIE didn't have all those exploits FF would have browser share equal to netscape today. Bugs which annoy me (YMMV):
After some browsing FF windows may stop redrawing (including browse buttons)- you need to resize/scroll down or restart windoze. All other progs work just fine.
Java don't work here on my FF. Works in msie, Opera and standalone. Maybe I just have too many different java installs. No biggie but occasionally I just have to fire msie (I noticed almost everyone using FF *HAS TO* go msie for some sites and it is not only for activex stuff)
http authentication is a mess - FF don't understand there can be more then one authentication within one url (it just seems to remember one set of user/pass per url)
FF grabs wrong icons for sites occasionally.
worst bug I stumbled upon twice: if you happen to hard-reset a comp with FF open you may lose all your bookmarks.
FF wants to save everything in same directory. How about remembering where I last saved pics, html or zip/tar files? How about title of document becoming saved file name? msie is a bit better about that.
There are some nice features, sure. Personally I don't care about tab browsing. I love being able to search within wikipedia or IMDB. I love developer plugin and DOM inspector. But for today FF is still ridden with bugs annoying the shit out of me.
And my point is? You can't expect everyone to love FF as it is. And you can expect (fear?) MS will learn a lesson and top FF. Let's be more humble and critic about FF and less in love with its success, please. Remember, FF success lies more in msie bugs then in FF greatness.
And how is 'bugging the keyboard or the room' going to find about my RSA key? I don't type it; I don't even know it. Same goes for Diffie-Hellman key exchange. Bugging the room don't cut it.
Funny thing is that GOTO is considered harmful and BREAK (labelless GOTO) is supposed to be allright. One can read long code with nested loops much easier when there are labels.
I think more harm is done by avoiding GOTOs at all cost and abusing BREAK statement. Especially when you have to mantain someone elses spaghetti.
It is not new but sheds some insight what was done to HHGG and why

The other day I went to see the movie and there was that stand in the middle of theater offering some credit card (I think citibank). 2-3 young females were approaching people asking to write an application where you should fill in your SSN. When I refused to give them my ssn and asked for some credentials other then name tags they were literally shocked. So was I...
You are missing that it is not your ISP duty to censor internet for you. What if they censor too much or too little maybe? If you are worried about your children then there are programs made especially for that. Use them instead. Or move to China maybe.
I keep clicking around and can't find any option to block that starwars crap from displaying on my Main page every 2 days. Same for boreship galactica.
Is adding 'Movies' section to preferences-home page too much of a troll? How about 'Paid Stories' section?
Evidence of methane and its coverage with water can be expained in at least one trivial way. Note Mars atmospheric composition:
C02: 95% H2O: 0.03%
Now huge ultraviolet radiation breaks down H2O and CO2 to loose hydrogen/oxygen/carbon atoms (this process along with mars weak gravity is co-responsible for mars losing its once dense atmosphere). Additionally there is huge evidence of
Electrical Discharge On The Martian Surface
Try simple high school science project: Load a container with water and CO2, add electrodes to create some discharge ('lightning') and you'll have your own PanGea in a bottle.
After some time all sorts of 'organic' chemicals will be present in the bottle along with most common methane (but also alcohols, higher carbohydrates and more complex molecules). I would think decent scientist would at least mention such possibility in reocurring articles on 'OH-OH methane is evidence of life on mars'

(7 over 5)* 1^6 = 7!/(5!*2!) * 1 = (7*6)/2 = 21
Easy. Just define your function returning a plane shifted by some constant towards (0,0,0).

Mod parent up.
i lle&as_sitesearch=slashdot.org/ or search slashdot articles on roland piquepaille.
Just have a look on http://www.google.com/search?query=Roland+Piquepa
Real whore here is Timothy. I bet he'll post an ad for your site for some change, too.
See http://www.simulation-argument.com/ for some insightful articles about that.
And they mod you funny?
The creature known as Kha-Nyou...has been discovered by World Conservation Society researcher Dr. Robert Timmins.
And the other day my dog discovered pepperoni pizza.

Cruithne is not a moon; it is not bound by Earth gravitation. It is an asteroid (number 3753).
Um... when you call 411 you can specify area code, even foreign country/city. Works for me every time.

... who reads Reduce the number of database hits
as 'increase the number of database misses'
rather then 'reduce the number of database accesses'?
I thought we were talking about factoring N rather then N-bit number...
But, Shor takes roughly 2^N qubits to factor N
Make that log2(N) qbits. 2^N would be a bit excessive (to factor 15 they'd need 32000 qbits. They used 7 of them)
