Don't ruin it for the rest of us, Blabby McBlabber! If even one creature from microsoft's legal team reads your post, consumers will be signing their souls and all of their precious, precious fluids/organs/Kool-Aid points away for every piece of software or hardware in actual *ink* (possibly blood). "Smart" "Business" is an infectious disease... it's like herpes... only I don't have it!
N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT). Your pineal gland will release it when you're near death. It can also be synthesized and smoked/injected (only *not* - it is now illegal because governments like to control all measures of our freedom, including what substances we put in our bodies, not to mention what we see and hear all the time, what we are lead to percieve as truth... but that's something else entirely), causing the user to transcend space and time...

I was in New Jersey, and I remember getting a high score in Super Mario Brothers, Rad Racer, and Tetris, and subsequently not faring too well in the on-stage competition w/my much older competitors (I was six at the time), and... most of them knew the trick to avoid getting 50 coins to not advance to Rad Racer, and then going to jump on that turtle like forever to rack up points, then eventually switching off to Rad Racer, and after beating that, just doing whatever in tetris with the time left, though it wouldn't really matter because their scores from Super Mario Brothers were insane... I was happy though, they gave me a cool hat!
... I was so overjoyed by all the playable NES and Game Boy games there... it was good times.
The Sundance Film Festival doesn't have a televised awards show on a major network, whereas AFI does. The American Film Institute Awards does not require cable, and thus has a greater chance at making those aforementioned obscure movies more widely known to the mainstream. While Sundance is indeed well-known, it just doesn't quite have the major coverage that AFI has.
I understand your take on the self-serving nature of all these awards, though I'd much rather see the Academy Awards wither away before the American Film Institute Awards; AFI has honored a number of worthwhile, but relatively small/independent productions that might not otherwise be recognized on a network-televised awards show. (e.g. "In The Bedroom", "The Royal Tenenbaums", "Memento", "The Man Who Wasn't There", et al)
Not that this is necessarily of much significance, but it should be noted that CNN is owned by AOL Time Warner, and New Line (The studio that released "Lord Of The Rings") is a Warner Brothers-owned property. It might explain CNN's "hype" over "Lord Of The Rings" winning three awards, though I don't quite notice it myself in the article...
Well... since Microsoft technically loses money with each X-Box sold, you can purchase an X-Box to run Linux or one of the BSDs on and just vow to never ever purchase a game from Microsoft, or otherwise espouse the X-Box as a viable platform.
I'd personally like to see many an X-Box used to host websites that malign Microsoft, as an act of protest against the downright silly Frontpage license agreement of late (Not that any of the restrictions affect reasonable human beings, as they wouldn't use Frontpage for website creation in the first place).

Well... close to it. Lou really does a number on him in the bar basement, if you recall.
Just to get something across, though, I must say that the person that started this particular thread is beyond my realm of comprehension... I personally find Brad Pitt to be an excellent actor, and I don't see anything spectacular about him getting "knocked the fuck out". "A River Runs Through It", "Interview With A Vampire", "12 Monkeys", Fincher's "Se7en" and "Fight Club"... I thought he was great in each and every one of these movies. I don't think it's feasible to dismiss him as a boy-toy anymore, as especially demonstrated in the last two films I've mentioned.
Duke Nukem came out in 1996; Army of Darkness, where such classic lines as "Hail to the king, baby." and "Gimme some sugar, baby." originated from, came out in 1993. This wouldn't be such a big deal if 3DRealms had actually given SOME credit to Raimi and company, instead of blatantly stealing their work and passing it off as their own.
Please remove foot from mouth in a timely fashion, thank you...
I think Be is most definitely better suited for mainstream use than Linux. You state that Linux is more attractive to skilled users and techies; Skilled users and techies are MOST definitely, in the present time, not in the mainstream...
Regardless I should state that I myself do favor BeOS, more than anything else due to it's amazing filesystem...

FIRST OFF, we learned in grammar school that when we make statements, we back them up with specific evidence, or at LEAST a reason for stating our comments. Nice try, though!
Anyways, how could you possibly dislike Conan's work on the Simpsons? Several hilarious jokes and visual gags of his style are evident in many episodes, not to mention that one of his two solo Simpsons episodes is "Marge Vs. the Monorail"; That is EASILY one of the greatest episodes of the series, slightly below "In Marge We Trust". Mr. Sparkle is the MAN...
I don't think the idea of deleting an offensive comment, even if generated by a computer application, violates our freedom of speech. However, it violates our freedom to choose what we think is appropriate in our own minds to view. We don't need Slashdot to choose what's unsuitable for our eyes. It's censorship, man- there's NO way we should allow that!
On a sidenote, I must state that Mr. Llewelyn WILL be sorely missed, and any inane comments bashing his tragic death should be disregarded anyway... LOUSY PUNKS!
If he WERE still alive, and could make a brief appearance in the next Bond film, well... is that really a cameo? I mean he WAS in practically each film, including "The World is Not Enough". That's pretty much just reprising your role YET AGAIN. I could understand if he maybe would have left for a couple of films, then had a bit-part...
Not to downplay his tragic death or anything. He really did have an excellent presence; his absence shall be felt.
