    More importantly, they left it alone for many years, so that it became a stable target. They've only recently produced IE7 and IE8 to halt the slide in market-share of IE.

    Yep, a lot of financial reporting type apps. I used to have an accountant that had to have 1.5+ for the tax office and 1.3.4 for the corporate reporting software.

    We use it and it works well. The only 'problem' is if someone installs an unmodified copy of Firefox, it tends to break. As you can probably guess, we're really broken up by that.

    to guarantee people only get on the web using the Approved Method, they're Doing It Wrong.

    Maybe, but it will deal with the majority of users in a quick easy fashion and be part of a fence-in-depth strategy to deal with the hard-cor e problems.

    Vendor lock-in. It would cost us millions to dump Oracle right now. We finally got the ability to deal with Finance and Payroll with IE7 about six months ago. They also let us upgrade from Firefox 2 at the same time.

    Be especially careful of the polymorphic ones. You don't know what they'll encapsulate. If the last guy wasn't on the ball you could inherit some real problems.

    Which statement was incorrect? The original post said "so this has blown up very big on the news there" Have you got any more than one ABC story? I was merely pointing out the hyperbole. If this was such a big deal, ACA and TT and the rest of the commercial bottom-feeders would be all over it, especially given that it's foreigners ripping off hard-working Australians.

    Hate to tell you this, but I haven't seen anything about this in Perth. This is the first I've heard of it. 'Chief Treasurer' as you put it would be the Treasurer, Troy Buswell. He's also Minister for Commerce and the grant likely came from the part of DOIR that now works for him. It's a Commerce matter, not Treasury and Finance, but he's been quiet on both fronts.

    No, they don't. They're talking about measuring the non-condensing part of the air, otherwise an air-conditioned room or a rainy day would void the warranty.
