There is nothing revolutionary about the horsepower, graphical abilities or capabilities.
There is not even anything special about the controller. That's not the point. (Sony and MS will make competing controllers that will probaly be better. i.e more sensitive, better range, more buttons, etc)
The point is (and this is the MAJOR point of every Console in the history of consoles)...
the Wii controller comes in the box!
why is this so important? people don't buy add-on hardware for their consoles. that's the whole point of a console. you buy the "gaming Appliance" bring it home and play games with it.
developers never know how many "Console Owners" will have "X-Add-on" so they will never design a game for that add-on.
developers will know that every Wii has at least one Wii-mote. period.
you need to give up and make way for the fresh young folks. Face it, you are undereducated, incompetent, incapable of making a decent decision. Why would anyone want to hire you!?. You should give blood and perhaps sell your organs on Ebay. You are a few short years away from being some young, capable citizen's Soylent Green.
Come on! you need to change your belief about what it means to be old (and useful)
"Old" is not measured in *years on the planet* Old is measured in your personal belief of your capability to contribute.
I like the idea of shorter, cheaper games. most games have about 3-4 hours of interesting, challenging gameplay, the rest of the crap is just 'package stuffing' to make it last 12 hours. that's why we have jumping puzzles in FPS games!
I was addicted to MTV back in the 80's. when they played 'music videos' 24X7, no reality shows. in fact no 'shows' at all. Just very cheesy, very 80's music videos all day-all night.
"99 luftballons" then "Thriller" then "Come on Eileen" then "Der Komissar" then "In a Big Country" then "Take on me" then "Rockit" etc.
only minor disturbance was the goofy news flashes by the very creepy and perverted looking Kurt Loder.
do they still have VJ's. haven't looked in awhile.
The best way to get over an addiction is to replace it with a slighlty better one.
The only fear I have is having to interact with the recently cured videogame addict.
...just to provide a cheap laptop for the contractors with a standard build of corporate software and a VPN client. leave it up to the individual to connect to the VPN (DSL, Dial-up, whatever)
it is secure and the corp can control the software.
what will happen when your tech 'fixes' an old PC and it electrocutes the cat?
I have recently finished a 3 month analysis of mindmap software. Everything from Visio, to Freemind.
My conclusion is that the best mindmap software on the market is not software but a large piece of paper and colored pens. The mind-mapping experience does not translate easily to mouse-clicks and keystrokes.
That said, the SECOND best is Mindmanager 6 Pro. It is pricey but worth it.
Freemind is nice and hopefully will mature into a better product
Big (Game/Movie) studios do not take chances. they use repeatable, established formulas to crank out tired and slighlty flashier product year after year. Innovation comes from below. Indie teams will be able to compete as they gain access to time-saving technologies. Most slashdotters are sitting behind a PC that could render Toy Story in a few hours. Innovative Open Source/low cost design products like Torque Game Engine, OGRE, BlitzMax make conceptualization easier. Languages like Python and Lua are already being used in AAA titles. ODE (Fizics engine) is FOSS and makes many in-game crates bounce realistically. The list goes on.
I think there will be a backlash. It happens a few years after every new batch of consoles come out. We are on the verge of a gaming honeymoon with the 360, PS3 and Revolution. This will last for 1-2 years. During that time we will hear
"Is PC gaming dead?" "PC game sales down, again"
and so on. This will shake up the industry and bankrupt many AAA producers. Once the honeymoon is over PC games will again Dominate for 2-3 years.
This cycle has been going on for many moons.
The result is that while there WILL be boutique studios, small, low budget teams, they will have the AAA talent thet EA can no longer afford.
perhaps I was not clear.
There is nothing "revolutionary" about the controller. This kind of thing has been available in various forms for a long time.
the 'revolutionary' part is that the unique controller comes with the system.
anyway, it is nice to make another person smile.

As you may recall, said Alaska nitwit has been pushing a bridge to nowhere for quite awhile. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/artic le/2005/10/20/AR2005102001931.html
for months. But I keep getting sucked in to inane threads like this one.
It's like crack I tell ya!

"Warren Spector received his BS in Speech from Northwestern University "

I'm a slashdot geek and i am thinking "get a life"
some animals do get issued Blackberrys from their employers. lucky dogs!
Most animals cannot hold cell phones up to their ears and many simply can't fill out the contracts required to obtain a cell phone.
Animal Data. that's ridiculous!
and a Curse!

Game designers/programmers gotta eat!
woo hoo! I hope i am typing fast enuff to be first post!
Is it a surprise that a huge amount of the U.S. Presidents personal fortune is in oil?
The entire Bush family exhibits "blatant business cronyism" with their ties to big oil.
Asking Bush to stop Fossil Fuel pollution is akin to asking Bill Gates to stop OS pollution.
I use an earpiece and then clip the phone to my belt right next to my...oh my god!!
do they sell lead-based boxers at Target?
