Yes, yes, I know, the PC groupthink mantra that we should all meekly follow from birth tells us that only nasty, oppressing anglo-saxons can be called racists.

And it looks like I was dead on target when I said that IBM would be looking to ramp up sales of their PPC chips too.

There is no chance that this merger will kill Microsoft as IBM will still continue to distribute MS products

    You are right in saying that the defection by IBM from the Wintel market would in no way "kill MS", but then I doubt anybody is seriously suggesting that it would. MS is HUGE afterall. On the other hand, if you had read the article, you would know that IBM are in the process of selling off their PC business. Once they have done that they will have precious little reason to want to continue selling MS products. Consider these points;

    1) IBM are one of the most active
    Linux-on-server evangalists in
    vendorspace.

    2) IBM continues to harbour extreme
bitterness over they way they were
shafted by MS during the OS/2 fiasco.

    3) IBM surely desire to sell more of
their own PPC chips, which are not
supported by the MS OS, but are
supported by both OS/X & Linux.

Add these things together and I find it hard to imagine that IBM would either need or want to continue selling MS products. They might continue to offer some limited MS Server products with their low-end x86 server range alongside the Linux on PPC that they will be undoubtably pushing, just to maintain a "complete" product range but you can bet your bottom dollar that this will be a shrinking business for them and the sooner it dies the better it will be from their perspective.

A marriage with apple would be VERY attractive to IBM. They could for the most part ditch Microsoft altogether and by doing so build up their own PPC CPU business. Apple would become their defacto PC arm, and with IBM pushing Mac OS/X on PPC into businesses you had better believe that a lot of PHB's would stand up and take that seriously as a viable desktop platform. You have the "business cred" of IBM coupled with the "cool factor" of apple and you have a force to be reckoned with.

Now, I'm not one to claim that television is anything but a load of assinine, populist bullshit, no sireee bob, but nor am I going to be told that newspapers are any better.

The entire mainstream media dances to the beat of the same drum kiddo. The newspapers push their ill-informed, politically sanitized worldview in the form of badly researched articles that usually contain as many lies and/or ommissions as they do facts.

Television simply repackages this same dreck into soundbite versions for easy consumption by clueless housewives.

If you are reading newspapers and thinking anything other than "what party line are these lying sacks of shit trying to push here" then you are seriously deluded.

Newspapers are the source of most of the crap you see on TV, so how exactly are they any better?

The same applies to the music industry.

What we have now is an entertainment industry that pumps out mostly crap music and mostly crap movies and then spends the rest of their time cooking up ever more ingenious schemes to try to stop people from consuming their product outside of the strictly controlled circumstances that they choose to let them consume them within.

What you are doing here is typical of your average liberal "thinker". You are confusing being "elite" with being an "elitist", and I have a free clue for you in that regard. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being an "elite" person. Becoming "elite" is something that worthwhile people should aspire to, really.

Aspiring to be a dumbed down cretin who is addicted to the cathode ray teat and no-talent rap artists is not such an admirable thing I'm afraid.

To your average PC liberal, anybody who is more skilled or accomplished than the foolish rabble that make up the majority of their ranks should be shouted down as being "elitist" and (were you to actually follow their shouted directions) henceforth marginalised by society.

Just because bottom dwelling liberal cry babies have misappropriated the word "elitist" and have tried to pretend that it means "anybody who is not a card carrying member of the pop culture swilling, dumbed down mindless majority" doesn't mean I have to agree with them.

You clueless, politically correct buffoons did the same thing with the word "discriminate". Were I to believe you and your liberal cronies I would think that to discriminate at all is a horribly bad thing and worthy of nothing less than a public hanging at noon.

The fact is that every time you choose Coke over Pepsi, you are discriminating

    OMG! The horror, the horror!

Just because you think that 50 Cent is a talented musician and that Lucy Liu resides at the pinnacle of the acting profession doesn't mean I can't look down on you with scorn and heap derision upon your sorry arse if I feel like it.
