    since more people are buying into 24/7 broadband (in order to download linux distro's) then i guess that a plateau of 24/7 usage is going to be pretty hard to improve on.

    a song is 50meg? really? is that WAV? make it mp3 and it will be 5meg. at 50 cent a gig thats a $0.0025. a $50 hard disk will hold 20,000 such songs, so thats another one-time $0.0025 for storage. whew! that's only about 90% net from the first download rising over 94% after a few score of downloads. Surely that must be the kind of margin the record company is used to?

    I think that they couldn't do things that are risky because of the political effects when there are fatalities. The sad part is that they do lots of research into launch vehicles but never get the funding to build and fly the 'prototypes'. Okay, so anything that has been in planning for a few years will look old hat by the time you build it, but test flying the things and eventually remote piloted destruction testing has got to yield useful data.

    Your holes are too small. Drill tiny holes in the pattern required for a dvd spec disc ( this may take some time ).

    Don't you have a piece of string from the com port to the phone? DKU-5 or whatever nokia call them? or an infra red dongle? the software is free on nokia's site. The dongles are about £15 and wires a tenner maybe.

    Intriguing. We have to go to great lengths to isolate radioactive material because if it gets out into the environment it will kill everyone and yet if terrorists leak radioactive material into the environment 'they probably wouldn't kill anyone'.
    By this logic, we should give all the hazardous waste to terrorists as it will be the cheapest, safest way to dispose of it.

    Well, Duh! The government wouldn't put those 'completely safe' nuclear facilities near anyone or anything important! London is the centre of the universe, everything outside that is godforsaken wasteland to be exploited for the good of London.

    ISP's, if they comply with this kind of thing and actually block P2P traffic will find subscribers dumping broadband and going back to cheap ass dial-up. P2P is the killer app for broadband.

    It's not a waste of the movie industry's time, as they won't be the ones coding.
    The people who code it will be paid for their time, so it won't be wasted effort for them.
    The movie industry has $millions to piss away so they won't miss money they would otherwise piss away on coke/advertising/'actors'.

    I am as poor as a church mouse whose wife has run off with another mouse, taking all the cheese with her. I am looking forward to Longhorn because then lots of people will upgrade their kit and i get to inherit some newer stuff.
    My most recent hand-me-downs were from guys updating graphics cards for doom3 and HL2.

    And they are selling a desktop 3ghz 256mb ram ordinary pc type pc with windows and ms works7 for £599. that's about $1000.
    WTF?
    For comparison, the cheapest jeans are £4, a breadmaking machine is £20 and a divx/mp3/jpeg/everything compatible dvd player is £43. And a 28" crt tv is about £200.
