"Also, all your software ain't legit, so your numbers are still a bit off."
Wow how condescending of you, actually all of my software is legit so my numbers are just fine thank you.
Besides where does software figure into the price of a system anyway? Heard of OSS?
And as an addition to my first post, I built a second system for my brother using the same hardware (including a GF4200TI) and it came to just under 450 with shipping and taxes, including the OS.. so there:P
Oh I see the confusion, I forgot to mention that the system itself cost me 400 (I had used my previous video card in this system) but I upgraded it with a 300 dollar video card (my first video card purcahse over 150 bucks) to make the total cost 700 dollars...
So the system itself cost about 400, it would have remained at this price if I had just used my old video card, but since i bought a new one the total price was 700, sorry bout that
Saw this at their booth display, pretty impressive, it also made toast, although I bet with some overclocking you could get the toast production times down a bit:P
I didn't say $100, it was about 400 but this is what it breaks down to: CPU was retail (comes with fan and 3yr warranty) as a combo with motherboard for 79 bucks. 1GB of ram was Geil Cas 2.5 for 89. Case was $38 after rebate Hard drive was about 60 after rebate (Seagate 200GB 8mb cache 7200 RPM) DVD dual layer was 50 That comes to about 350+ with Tax.
So yah thats how much i paid about 1+ years ago.. it pays to buy things in piecemeal looking for the best deals I guess...
The only thing that I guess you could consider shaddiest(sic) cheapest items would be the motherboard which was an ECS N2400 (Nforce2 chipset) but I have bought 2 of them and for me they are rock stable and offer a great set of features (doesn't overclock with a sh*t tho..).
Previously in this system I had a geforce 4200 also and HL@ and doom3 ran great also (although on a medium-low setting blend) so instead of upgrading a new console I just upgraded the video card and i'm set for the next few years...
"BFG is a good manufacturer to buy from as they have a lifetime warranty. I actually had one of their cards die on me and the RMA process was painless (only had to pay for shipping the card out to them)."
I don't know about that, i recently went through their RMA process for a defective card OUT OF THE BOX, 3 cards later i think i finally have a good one...
So 2+months and 3 cards to get a decent replacement hardly counts as painless, but ymmv.
Same here, I'm running a 2800+ with a GF6800 (stock not GT or ultra) and can play ANY game with full details and I get great framerates.. I built the over all system (1 gb ram, 200 gb hD, dual layer DVD) for 400 bucks.. the card was the most expensive being 300 (at the time, you can get one now for under 200)...
I really don't see a reason to upgrade for at least another year or 2 (already had this system for over a year now) but when i do it will be a doosy;)
That would mean that the game needs to be able to contact a "central" server as there is no way for the game to actually know if a port on the firewall is open.
"A recent patch to SWAT 4 introduces dynamic in-game advertising in the form of randomly generated posters on walls in the game. Provided by Massive, Inc., the game downloads new ads each time the game is loaded. "
Isn't this game single player? Has anyone played it? What happens if yo disable your internet connection before you start the game?
"wrote him a letter explaining that I was a gamer and liked what he was doing."
And he wrote you a positive reply? Amazing...
Try an experiment, write him as a gamer and tell him you don't like what he is doing.. see what kind of response you get...
"Thompson is anti-violent games in the hands of minors."
If there is no correlation between youths who commit acts of violence and Violent video games then why is this good?
If there is actually a correlaton between reduced violence in minors who play violent video games (which the vioence in youth statistics does show) then wouldn't Jack be doing a bad thing currently?
"but lets not kid ourselves about the nature of the tittilation being peddled."
I think everyone here understands what these games are about, we read the reviews, we see the screenshots, we play the games... but what Jack Thompson is saying (and his agenda) is that these games are dangerous and are corrupting our youth and turning them into violent killers... the problem with this is it's just not true.
Video games have enough stigma attached to them already.. do we really need another ass-hat running around spouting lies and making the Video game studios water down or censor these games like they already do for movies, TV, and songs?
but then the next step is making it a crime to sell to a person under the age specified by the rating... like it is currently illegal to sell an X-rated movie to a minor right?
Reminds me of the game "13", looks like the "cell shading" type of graphics which IMO look crappy and cartoonish, way to lose immersion there buddy, heh.
17+ means 17 and older, so he means teenagers under the age of 17... unless you are being witty, in that case i would have to inform you that the portion of my brain the perceives wit has been removed.
An article about Jack Thompson and his overtly anti-gaming beliefs or if you see an article that shows no or opposite correlation between gaming and youth violence, feel free to drop Jack a line...
His email is: jackpeace@comcast.net.
OR you can write Jack Thompson, 1172 South Dixie Hwy., Suite 111, Coral Gables, FL 33146.
I think if enough of us write him a real letter everytime he stands before the media and spouts off more lies, he will think differently?
Who knows maybe someday it WILL happen *not holding breath*
"It never ceases to amaze me how people can dismiss something without knowing what it's about, or argue against it with no direct knowledge of what they're arguing against!"
Amen, it should be required that in order to post an argument for or against the Bible or any religon, you have to at least RTFM!!!
"... and your I.D. and signature are generated by direct interaction with your body and thus are marks of the beast.
Actually in Revelations, the beast is analogous to a sculpture or icon, and is given power and "life" by Satan (so those who say 666 is the number of the devil obviously don;t know what they are talking about).
Something about it amazed people because it came to life, and was mortaly wounded but survived.
So the mark must represent this "Beast" and couldn't represent the actions of people as you describe...
A lot of interesting stuff in revelations... like it says that the beast will rise from the ocean, so could that mean an island or coastal state (like japan or california?) and ten kings with ten crowns will worship the beast (something akin to the euro? i dunno), it will be come mortaly wounded but still survive...
SO men won't be forced to worship the Devil, but this "Beast" which is given it's power by the Devil.
"IANA Biblical scholar, but I don't think they know who said that piece. The whole woman-taken-in-adultery episode is missing from early manuscripts, and many consider it inauthentic."
Whent he catholic church was deciding whether or not a book was authentic enough to be included in the "offical Canon of the new testament" they made the decisions by comparing the different texts of the different books, and which ones were held up or supported by other texts and/or the old testament...
I believe the passage you are referring to only existed in one of the 4 books (mark matthew luke john) but jived witht he rest of the new testament and thus was decided to be kept... I read something about this in one of my bibles which give insights into some of the passages as a footnote... so it might not be exactly what they were saying but it is close.. the passage was seen in one/some of the writings but not all of them, so there was some contention about it's authenticity.
I always preferred running my games in opengl because it just looked better, plus it was faster.
Nowadays the difference between D3D and opengl is a lot less, but I bet it has more to do with Microsoft not wanting a competing architecture and the actual abilities of the layer itself...
Oh well I guess i will have to live with D3D, I had big hopes for OpenGL2.0 too...
And this is exactly how they did it, they created a false attack by poland and promptly invaded them the next day.
Makes you wonder about 9/11? Memos telling us it was going to happen, the administration doing nothing while it happened, and to this day coverups hiding what actually did happen before, during and after the attacks...
You think the Saudis couldn't reign in their own son if they wanted to? (Osama is a son of one of the fathers in the Saudi leadership) All they would ahve to do is close his credit cards and bank accounts (his allowance) especially with the help of the US covernment which is supposedly so close with the Sauds...
"So the telcos would get what they want, which is no competition while the consumers get screwed"
Everytime major service providers like phone, electricity, water, is deregulated it is great for Businesses, and sucks for the consumer...
To see this all you have to do is look at the current monopolies like california power (PG&E) and cable providers (Comcast) ever since these 2 were deregulated, customers had to paid more for the same service and the companes accountablity wen't from "some" to "none".
"The first fallacy is its claim that evolution is a "random" process. Evolution is not random at all, as its progress is determined by natural selection (or the selection of God, if you prefer)."
Isn't the "random" claim in regards to mutation and speciation in Evolution? Even Darwin believed mutation to be random (and you could call it that since it depends on outside sources to cause it to happen).
What you are refering to is adaptation which is just one part of the total theory of evolution.
"As a matter of fact, the math was done decades ago, and it turns out that evolution works."
This statement sounds quite dodgy as there weren't computers even powerful enough to take into account millions or hundreds of thousands of generations of even one prototype species...link?
Overall I would have to disagree that ID shouldn't be considered a valid theory, we have plenty of theories in Science that are beyond our powers of testing and proving (how many exists just in physics?) so just because ID would be hard or seemly impossible to us currently in regards to proving, doesn't mean sometime in the future we wouldn't be able to... Isn't Science all about opening your mind to new ideas and not dismissing them without proof?
I would say let's teach Science in classrooms that deal with laws that have been proven and leave the theorys to college where the subject matter is more academic rather than needed on a day to day basis for the average man/woman...
How the hell did you know that? did you install a spy camera in my house? *looks around franticly*

No i haven't but I have played pretty much any other FPS game with no problem.. BF2 with 64 players and no hitching, does that count?
