If you can make it from NYC to Boston by car in 4 hours, you'd have to average around 88 miles per hour. Somehow, I don't think the revenue hungry state police would miss a chance to slow you down and extract some funds.
Our high school computer room had Apple II's (late 70's, early 80's). We were amazed when we got 140 K floppies. We were stunned when we got the first 5 MB "Winchester" drive.
It's no more difficult to pronounce Firenze than it is to pronounce Florence. Why do we persist with the idiotic British bastardizations of place names? I tell you, the British screwed up so much. For example, take the Greek alphabet. Mu? Nu? What the hell is wrong with mi and ni?
If a person backs up over a tricycle sitting on the driveway, he's an idiot. The first thing before you get in the car is take a look around to make sure everything is clear (plus no flat/low tires, etc).
My opinion is that the camera is a ridiculous regulatory requirement, When I'm backing up, I tend NOT to look at my dashboard. Rather, I'm checking all around as I move the car. I would agree that a sound alert of some sort might be useful for those rare situations where a kid or someone gets behind the car unobserved at the last moment.
The impetus for CHMSL (center high mounted stop lights) started with the Oldsmobile Toronado of the early 70's. Someone (probably an insurance company analyst ) noticed that this particluar model had a far lower rate of read-enders than any other car. They deduced it was because the car had an additional set of high mounted brake lights, unlike any other car.
Now that all cars have CHMSL's. I wonder if the novelty effect has worn off and rear-enders happen at the same old rate.
It's been a while, but I seem to remember that if you're running a dual fuel capable turbine generator, your preference is to use natural gas over oil.. It's much cleaner. If you run with oil for too long, it's expensive fuel-wise and maintenance issues crop up much quicker.
I guess you've never been to New York City and environs.
Everywhere I go (NYC subways, PATH trains, stores, etc), people stand on the right on escalators and the left is reserved for people who walk up. Yes, there's an occasional clueless person, but a polite "excuse me" usually gets the message across.
OK, this one is new to me (and I've been around computers since the late 70's).
WTF is a kettle cord and why is this the first time I've ever read/heard of a power supply cord being called a kettle cord??????
Not necessarily true. I had a friend whose brother accidentally killed an old lady crossing a dark road at night. There were no streetlights, she was crossing at a blind curve, not an intersection, and she was wearing a black coat.
He was not charged, but he was certainly permanently traumatized.
He may have chosen the wrong nomenclature, but the logic is still there. Change "fast lane" to "passing lane". Grandma should not be in the passing lane at all unless she's passing someone. End of story.
I was partial to Netware file system permissions myself. Simple, elegant, and effective. Windows and Unix permissions have always made me cringe in disgust.
There's no need to be a helicopter parent. Both my parents worked hard and long hours and yet they did a very good job of impressing upon me the importance of lifelong quest for knowledge. They also gave me a comfortable childhood. My wife and I are doing the same for our kids even though we both work. What's important is setting expectations and a good example as well as providing a warm stable home.
I don't know where you live, but in my town here in New Jersey, my kids are getting a fine public education. Each state does it's own thing so maybe things are crappy where you live or the parents just don't give a damn.
Obviously you're very wealthy and live in a very different reality. I'm not doing too bad myself but at age 45, there's no way I could have bought 20 cars at $35,000 each since I started working. Most people don't earn enough to spend at the rate you do, and most people aren't willing to just drop dead when they get diagnosed with a possibly treatable ilness.

Those were the days...

Nope. I have yet to find ethanol here in New Jersey.
Exactly. I appreciate the small anonymous island of sanity you have created in this sea of cluelessness.
Of course I'm confident in the method. I wouldn't use it if I weren't. It really does work well and really does result in no blind spots. Try it.

There's no need for any fancy mirrors. Using this method, you can adjust your mirrors so there is no blind spot. I've been using it for years.

Do people really use laptops on their laps? The whole keyboard/screen relationship is totally wrong in that configuration.
Nope, I do the same. Clean desktop, clean browser, I hate screen clutter.
I have a hunch that many of those who open tons of tabs are resource intensive in other parts of their lives.
I believe this falls into the "no shit Sherlock" category.

I think the higher fatality rate is due to guns. Why have guns unless you can use them?

I'm not paying 60% of my wages in taxes.

I'm sure it'll be extra fun using his leaf blower to blow his brain bits off someone's lawn.

Simply wrong. Amazingly wrong. Stunningly wrong.
What do Europeans know about 3 strikes? Shouldn't it be 3 penalty kicks or 3 head butts?
