Except for the fact that 4th graders today don't know what a C64/AppleII is anymore than they know what an 8-track or rotary phone is, much less remember such fun utilities such as nibbler.
You have too much faith in people not being idiots. People watched "Bruce Almighty" and immediately started trying to phone God when they used a legitimate telephone number on the pager rather than the traditional 555-xxxx format.
And apparently it doesn't make one smart enough to use the preview button, either. The last sentence really should have ended with:
"doesn't equate with being able to communicate in proper 'insert your language here.'"
Learning how to type and learning how to write are two very different things. Even the ultimate hunt-and-peck typist can write in complete sentences with correct grammar and punctuation (though I agree, many tend to be 'lazy'). Being able to type 120wpm, however, doesn't equate with being able to communicate in proper .
Coach K turning down the Lakers coaching position doesn't affect my quality of life either. Even worse, I don't find it interesting of fascinating. Yet way more moula is tossed around on deals like these than on scientific research.
So people can't use Windows Update... does that also mean people will no longer be able to go to MSDN and get the patches/updates manually? Currently, you can - thereby circumventing any problems with trying to go to windowsupdate.com or whatever.
I can't believe they'd take away this (manual) ability, as some people cannot and will not ever hook certain systems up to a network connection, yet will need some way to put on certain updates.
_Were_ wonderful? They actually still are... the joy of IF games is that they haven't been outdated like so many games today. The graphics are fine, nearly any system can run them, you don't need the latest $500 nvidia/ati offering, etc. And as they are as complex or as simplistic as the author makes them, they don't lose charm even a decade or two later.
I'm assuming you are from Australia or something similar where things like sinks, toilets, and volume controls spin 'backwards' relative to how they spin in the U.S.

If we ignore the question for a century or so, who's to say the technology will be there? Isn't the point of looking into things like this now is to drive the technology so we have the oppotunity to make it better/cheaper/more efficient a century from now?
"Pfft... forget about it Wilbur. Ignore the qustion about manned air-flight for a century or so until the technology improves."

So long as we can wipe our memories of him afterwards.

Of course not. Any sane user is going to have a single button with a Firefox logo (with all pages open in tabs).

10 digit codes and intelligence related? Interesting, I can remember my phone number just fine. I'm a genius!
