From a brief look at arch (via the tutorial, etc), it appears that arch is an open source MKS without all the graphical goodies.
Having had experience with MKS and the idea of changesets (and being able to merge changeset across branches) this is VERY powerful. Tied with a tracking system, project management/config. management becomes greatly simplified. Regardless of how Arch does, hopefully it'll spur others to add more changeset features to their software as well.
I'm guessing that for every $70-$90k PhD, there are a number more stuck washing test tubes at a very low rate of pay. As well, the category was listed as 'biological/life sciences', not biotech. I've worked for a couple biotech companies in the past and while I do have a bio degree my position in both companies leaned much more heavily on my CS degree. On any survey/report, I would have marked myself in the appropriate CS/software engineer category and not 'life science' even if that was the business domain if a specific 'biotech' category was lacking.
And as sexy as the field is supposed to be, it is horribly horribly managed. I've had the fun of going through two CEOs tanking two promising biotech companies. Not fun when the positions are hard to come by as it is.
I can't afford to buy a $500 video card to play Doom 3 as it is... I think I'd cry if WinRAR popped up and told me my video card wasn't good enough to unpack some.rar file.
Sure there is lots of airspace, but claiming that it is unlikely you'll come across another SkyCar even in every family in the world has one? Come on now - everyone is still going to be travelling to the same destinations that they do now! I don't care how much open airspace there is above Siberia, my family will be heading to the local grocery store and movie theatre right along with everyone else. Betcha I'd see a few cars up in the sky - I certainly see them on the road.
Pfft... half the road-works projects going on right now have been _going on_ for the past XX years. They'd have to start about 5years ago with placing chips in the asphalt to have any prayer of being done by the time 2014 rolls around. Wait, maybe this is why 'The Dig' is taking so long to complete! They are backordered on driving chips!
Japan should just follow the model set forth in Contact - let France build theirs, and they build their own in secret so when the French one is destroyed by terrorists/disgrunteled employees/whatever, there is a backup. And what's a mere $5billion? The machine in Contact was over a trillion, wasn't it?
Ahh, but how well will it play Half-Life 2?;)
And yes, it appears the nForce4 chip will be out by year's end (hopefully sooner?) with a 32-lane PCI bus that will support the SLI mode of the GeForce 6 series cards.
Hype was likely the wrong word to use... for people just now upgrading to pci-express, it is slightly disappointing to hear about the 'perfect' mainstream gfx card, and no motherboard to support it in the same price segment (until the nForce4 fanfare begins)
As nifty as the card sounds, the hype of SLI might be just that - as the Tech Report preview points out, there aren't any sub-$500 motherboards currently the sport dual PCI-Express slots. For people looking to incrementally upgrade, they'll have to factor in needed a new motherboard as well. We can only hope an "nForce3.5" chipset with dual PCI-Express slots and a sane price point shows up in tandem with the new cards...
Liar! That's a mangled quote from the movie Armageddon! Everyone know it was Bruce Willis that said it. Geez.
It looks just like the white iPod, only darker.
Christmas shopping season in the US.
A computer with Guinness inside? BRILLIANT!
Wait wait wait... as a ./'er, you know this how?
Having multiple accounts is against the terms of service, is it not?
Just hope she doesn't start bringing in 3rd party candidates...

I'm sure Mr. Burns was pleased with the increased reliance on power consumption while the sun was blocked out...

No No NO! I do not want to see an avatar responding to someone's body language/expressions while they are off surfing porn in another window.
Now, when will analog modems go this way too? When we all move to S. Korea or Sweden.

Wasn't it called an Amiga?
What about all the crazies, wackos, and tin foil hats you can find here?

Reattaching the head is the easy part. Making it functional again, however....
Wish I could mod you past 5 for that. First time I've truly laughed so hard here at /. Thanks.

I don't know about that... have you seen all the humans running around?

The interesting thing to note here is that while yes, they are Java apps what is making them excel is the fact that they use SWT rather than Swing.
Yeah, but good luck getting those millions of pennies cashed in
