I'm about 95% sure that Valve didn't licence anything from iD to make Half-life. However, if I'm wrong, I would really like to read the articles that you link to that say so.;)
OpenGL is one part of the things that need to be ported. Sound and input also need to be dealt with, and probably on a much lesser scale, networking (the implimentations are probably almost exactly the same at the API level that the game developers would be working with).
If it was written in half-decent object-oriented-code, it really wouldn't be all that tough. I mean, they did it with the first one, and that one even had a software renderer.

Have you even played Halo on the PC? The AI is the same. While the marines in the back may not be as good as a human coop buddy (which Microsoft did rip us off on with the PC version), they most certainly did not just "spin around firing randomly".
Because there is actually a way to generate a new key so that you look at least somewhat legit. At least enough to let you update, install service packs, the whole deal, as far as anyone can tell. If Microsoft knows you're a pirate... that's anyone's guess.
Seriously, you should have just slapped them right there for calling them 'virii'. The word is VIRUSES. I hate that even more than I hate the misuse of the word their/there/they're and your/you're.
That would actaully be an interesting movie. It would be "how are they going to own those suckers this time?" instead of "who is going to fuck up next?". Nice job:)

Copy over your old 2.4 .config to the new 2.6 source directory and run make oldconfig. Has always worked for me. Good luck.
