For a site with linux in it's url, it seems very negative against linux and has taken SCO's side in the past. Is such a story really news worthy coming from LinuxWorld?
I think its rather typical. Linux users, while being extremely dedicated to their OS of choice, HAVE to be underdogs. Its not that they (we) like being underdogs. Its sort of a touchstone for us, like no matter what else is going on, the world is still against linux.
I've been a linux user for a couple years now and have since gotten over myself. Its just the OS I choose to use for various reasons; but starting out with linux, I wouldn't have felt nearly as cool, 1337, if you will, if linux had a decent market share.
Perhaps the intention of LinuxWorld is to keep linux users feeling superior for as long as possible.
With all the jokes about getting pr0n faster, I think people may be forgetting that it is porn that drives technology at many levels.
vhs/beta, dvd, and i'm sure broadband internet, to an extent, all pushed by porn. So when you wank, wank in thanks for porn to the home by video cassettes, dvds, and 10 gbit internet.
By your actions you have made IBM look like a warm, friendly, and even cool company and the hero of the IT world. Yes the former evil empire now looks like Santa Claus while SCO's image is that of the Iraq information minister.
Almost makes it seem like IBM has been pulling the strings all along. Of course, that would imply that IBM needed people like us to be on their side.
However, if that does turn out to be the case, I will be delightfully satisfied with being wound up in such a dramatic series of events:)
This formula isn't just common to Star Wars. Its the old 3 Act play formula. In very general terms:
Act 1: Good guys win (happy) Act 2: Good guys lose (sad and/or suspensful) Act 3: Good guys win (happily concluded)
This is just how it works. I won't go into what would happen if the formula were changed, but just think about how repetitive all happy endings would be, or how depressing a sad ending would be after 3 movies.
i absolutely agree. sure, he has personality, but it just makes him a laughing stock. all that comes to mind are images of leo assing around while patrick tries to answer a good question. however, when there is a completely moronic question, he sure does take the reigns, doesn't he. leo would probably make an awesome junior high school teacher, just keep him off tv.
1. most of the dumb things discussed on techtv are questions from actual dumb viewers. if you've watched any of the shows and heard any of the calls they take, you would notice that they are mostly newbies or retards. its MEANT to be newbie.
2. re: gangsta mannerisms....its a joke.
3. never have i seen such a large group of "intellegent" people take shit so literally. for example, with the laptop burning thing...do you actually think they were proposing that as a practical solution? smarten up!
4. all this talk about kevin rose, yet i don't think anyone mentioned how big a tool kevin mitnik is. i suppose you thought the idea of blackhats sending him their exploits so he can "write a book" and make money on their backs was great.
Again, people sound surprised when they find that techtv and thebroken are newb oriented. I have an idea...lets make a show about networking with cisco and os programming. can you say "failure"?
