  1. Re:The advantage of social networks on Consumer Strikes Back at Crooked Online Retailer · · Score: 1
Speaking of trust systems: I've had excellent results with ebay - buying from reputable sellers. There are quite a few chinese/hong kong sellers on there with 10-50k transactions and 1-10 negative feedbacks. I don't know *any* brick and mortar stores with those kinds of numbers.

Unfortunately PriceRitePhoto also sells on Ebay with a 99% approval rating on almost 5000 feedbacks. They have 32 negatives but I do notice that it says (145 ratings mutually withdrawn). Could this be the result of more harassment? A little research yields:

    I especially like this response.

" CALLED ME A MORON- six times & SAID ILL KEEP THE CAMERA & YOUR MONEY- E FOR MORE"

Check out the negative feedback they've left:

There are definitely some shady business practices going on there.

I think adding the word "hack" to the title of you book has become a book hack. If the books title was "Astronomy" it would gather dust in the clearance rack. Apply the "hack" and you get a Slashdot mention and Amazon sales. This must be in the newest edition of TweakUIforWriters. Damn this old version of mine. My new "Shower Hacks" book should do so much better than my previous "Taking a Bath for Dummies" did.

This is perfect for automotive use! Now every rice burner will not only have paint that changes color from every angle but will have two options of what to watch on their 5 lcd screens. I can see it now. If I don't like the program from the right lane I can just switch lanes and try the left.

While I'm not going to argue with you on a lot of your reasons for not building a DIY projector, many are valid points, bulb life is certainly not one of them. My Lumenlab projector uses a $20 bulb that has a life of 20,000 hours. Compare that to a commercial projector with a $300 bulb that lasts 1,000 hours if you are lucky. While the initial cost may be only a little more for a low end projector, if you actually use it everyday, bulb replacement cost is going to be an issue.

  5. Re:A better buyer's market? on eBay Accused of Price Gouging Scheme · · Score: 1

I've used Ebay for about 6 years now and I would have to say it definitely was easier to find a bargain when I started. It's easy to explain. The amount of people using Ebay has exploded. In 1999 when I bid on a miscellaneous laptop part, I may have been the only one who wanted it. The chance of that happening now is slim. The only way to get a bargain now is to do a Buy it Now search for the item you want. If you have the time you can wait until someone who doesn't know better posts the item with a Buy price that it well below the current market price. The key is to jump on it fast, because if you don't someone else will. If you want proof that it works do a completed item search for the item you want. Pay particular attention to the auctions that ended with one bid. You can usually find at least a few instances where someone got a great deal.

Actually no. I did mean right arrow 7 times. This morning the main link did not show the Virgin Mega Store and 7 clicks to the right was a perfectly centered shot of the famous Naked Cowboy. It seems that in the mean time someone has fixed it so that now the link does in fact show the store and as you stated he is now 12 clicks to the left. What is strange is that he no longer is centered in the picture. I wonder why that is. It seems like its a whole new series of photos.

I find it amazing that when democrats question an election they get called "whiny crybabies" but when it's republicans doing it, it's their "constitutional right"! If Bush had lost under these circumstances every other word on AM radio would be "re-count". btw - It has been noted many times that a concession is not legally binding. Although I am sure Kerry will not be our next president so that should not be a concern. The whole point of this discussion is to ensure that each and every vote is counted appropriately and that no candidate gets votes they don't deserve. You may not care now but what if the next voting machines are designed by a known Democratic supporting company instead of the current Republican supporting one. Then you will wish for accountability. I hope I'm here to call you a "whiny crybaby" when the time comes.

From your question it didn't seem like you would be interested in something as extravagant as audio support but... getting the sound to work on a 390 is not easy. The 390e and 390x are a piece of cake though. (Yes I have them all) I just bought a new drive for my 390x for much less than $120 at Newegg. It was a 40gig Toshiba for $85 I think. You may want to try there. Also I have never seen a 390 with out a cd drive. Maybe yours is different but every one I have ever seen has an optical and floppy combo. The cd one can be picked up cheap on e-bay and open up a whole new realm of cd based distros to you. Good Luck.
