Stop calling quiet press releases "leaks" FFS. We all know people yawn at press releases so they call it a leak and you look like an investigative journalist. Everyone wins right? Bleh fuck it. Slashdot has officially joined The Great Stupiding.
I'm not trying to "strike her down" and make her into some feminist Obi Wan. I'm simply learning how the game works nowadays. If I'm hanging out with some of my colleagues during conference breaks and chatting, and a female attendee walks in, my job and my 2 kids college fund/food supply/roof depends on me immediately maintaining a silence and uttering "Yes m'am" or "No ma'm" if and when appropriate, and that is all. There will be no conversation, exchanging views on squat, smiling etc. Its just gotten too dangerous to talk freely now.
Then rather than being too self-absorbed with with your own attendance/non-attendance, you should be more concerned about the numbers and quality of developers that are being [scared off/pissed off] from attending through fear of being made into the next internet monster by politically correct "behavior normalization" nazis.
It will also put me off talking freely and in an unguarded manner in front of female attendees at any conference. Who knows which one will want to be the next twitterverse celeb getting notoriety by making a big thing out of nothing. That victimhood addict who reported those 2 guys for "inappropriate" comments went on to make very inappropriate comments herself about those guys (search for her TSA socks stuffing comments).
She is a hypocrite troublemaker who is creating divisions in the dev community along gender lines for no good reason only her own need to validate herself out of victimhood.
Next time a woman mentions at work how far along she in in her pregnancy, can she be reported for inappropriate comments?Because this is where this is all going.
You do know that the First Amendment has been eroded to the point of irrelevance right? There are so many exceptions, ifs, buts etc in various pieces of legislation that "The First Amendment" nothing more than a drunken 4th of July trailer park war cry. Your smugness when referring to TFA is as funny as it is worrying.
It is just someone who doesn't like you trying to fuck with you. That's not how identity thieves operate.
Hopefully one of those automated emails sent you you includes an IP address of whomever is submitting the forms, and that may lead to something. I would say relax, it will pass.
Saying JS is an awesome language isn't a good enough reason to switch. Next year are they going to switch to Python coz like thats awesome too? Or Dart?
Why is it that you get to review yourself?
Shouldn't an external independent body be doing the reviewing (investigating)?
Isn't there a clear and obvious conflict of interest in you reviewing yourself?
The anti-European sentiment expressed by americans here is really sickening. Why is it every time there is a story about something positive in Europe, americans innate sense of cultural inferiority comes to the fore expressed as hate.
This scientist X-Factor style competition sure beats the hell out of Honey Booboo. So good luck with that you yanks.
Living in the west of Ireland myself (Galway), I can tell you that is not true. I've never even heard of that improbably named gentleman who you claim is "one of Ireland's greatest humorous writers and a great student of the Irish language". (An unlikely name as in Irish, n never goes before c, also double-e would be an i "fada")
Maybe he markets himself to americans as such to part you from your hard-earned. Who knows.
A lot of Irish (and especially English, e.g. John Cleese, Sharon Osbourne etc) make a living in America by pandering to long held ethnic stereotypes that Americans fully believe in. This guy, assuming he is actually Irish, is just doing likewise. When you challenge the cherished and stereotypical view of the world that Americans hold dear, Americans get confused, resentful and angry.
They make it seem like its helping the US vs the rest of the world. Much like the loftily titled "The Patriot Act!!!", how could that possibly be bad?
FTA: "In some circumstances, this information allows competitors to design around U.S. technologies and seize markets before the U.S. inventor is able to raise financing and secure a market"
In reality it will be used to stifle commentary of the sheer ridiculousness of the current patent system.
Where's the editorial control today? How did they sneak this obvious industrial hit-piece past the editors? Didn't have your coffe yet huh?
And as there are mostly americans here on slashdot people will be only too willing to drink to anti-European kool aid. I expected better from slashdot.
It may well have changed living rooms, but it did not cause a revolution, which is what this sd post is about. It was late, crippled, under powered. The fact that it can show netflix movies is not revolutionary. My dogs water bowl can show netflix movies. As for dropping the cable company, many have done likewise but not necessarily because of apple.
If you base your business model on iframes you're kind of asking for trouble.

"Leak" is the new press release guys. Gives the story legs as people think they are learning something illicit. We all know that right?
"Chris Hadfield, an astronaut currently on the ISS, described it in his Twitter feed as 'a small stone from the universe.'"
"Jim Scotti, a planetary scientist from the University of Arizona, thinks the object may have had a different origin:"
really? do tell

Gnome devs have been writing apps for Gnome without "Intellisense" since day 1.

Just try telling the Turks about the Armenian genocide committed by their troops in the early 20th century and you'll see their inner Jabba come out.

Rather apt i'd say considering so many of the athletes are chemistry buffs themselves. I care not a jot.

Sorry to piss on your corn flakes but,
iPad - not living room specific - did not cause a living room revolution. There were laptops and tablets in the living room long before the ipad.
Apple TV.....Really?......REALLY? a crippled late-to-tha-game almost-abandoned video streamer box is a revolution?
Fan much?
they said that about the living room a few years ago, what happened there?
Yes, ISLAMIC fundamentalist extremists. Your wordplay may fool some of the less intelligent slashdotters though (the digg.com diaspora).
