  1. That can't work! on I, Foos: Robotic Foosball Device Enables Solo Play · · Score: 5, Interesting

So much in this game has to do with the strange ball physics. Like putting the right spins while trying to blast the ball past the defender. I cannot immagine this technology to be so advanced to do things that real competitive players will find remotely challenging. Not to mention after programming the computer to possibly track the ball and what not, then to try to program artificial intelligence to make sure you aren't exploiting same weaknesses over and over.

I am wondering if they will somehow design a way to play pool againsht a computer.

  2. Always be Glitches on Madden-ing Glitch Irks Gamers · · Score: 1

Well, I am afraid to say that perfection is too high of standard to put any game. Every game has a glitch and people sit around looking for them. Unfortunately the glitches do drastically change the game and ruin the realism set forth. But, if you are REALLY into realism you wouldn't be looking for the error in the first place.

This is why I don't play online competitively. Some 13 year old kid who knows nothing of the simulation they are enjoying sits down looking for a way to exploit the principle of the game. I am not sure if they just get some sort of sick joy out of ruining others fun, or just want to win at any cost.

I guess the only way to solve the issue is to just hope more consoles are equipped with hard drives and the consumer can just download patches like other online games.

  3. Bored Game on MSN's Catan Preview Hits Gen Con Indy · · Score: 0, Flamebait

I am rather tired of board games. 2D is so lost and forgetten. This recent development makes me think that the gaming industry has gotten so desperate. When is CandyLand going to be done by EA? New ideas are so dead.

I wonder, are there any new ideas left?

  4. Maybe to be used as a tool for Table Top Play? on Turbine Shows Off Latest D&D, Asheron's Call Announcements · · Score: 5, Interesting

Many times DM's have a hard time getting the players on the same page with long descriptive monologues of areas the players are in. With this concept maybe the players only need to look so far as a laptop computer to have a complete idea as to the layout. And if the movement and other things follows the basic rules set forth they may be able to use this as a replacement of purchasing expensive minatures, paints, and markers to help the players visualize. I personally like when different formats come together to create a new style of play.

For instance I have recently put on an ARG (Alternate Reality Game) at http://ruaware.org/. Many people feel the game is more an RPG than an ARG, but whatever it is, it is new, and when games come together, everyone wins.

  5. A Connection to www.ilovebees.com? on Red vs. Blue Season 2 Hits DVD on August 2nd · · Score: 1

I am wondering if the new promotion ARG (Alternate Reality Game) for Halo2 is to promote Red vs. Blue.

The game just started a couple days ago and is being pursued at http://www.immersionunlimited.com/. The website the world is flocking to is http://www.ilovebees.com/.

So, with a game that is not like a game promoting a game is definately something that will bend your mind.

  6. New Ideas, Same old problem. on Videogame Piracy - Is a Stricter Approach Necessary? · · Score: 5, Insightful

This is a problem that has been and always will be. I remember being thirteen and playing Leisure Suit Larry. Did my parents but it for me? No. I had it copied from a friends computer. At the time the game came on 2 3.5 floppys.
Here is the problem, it is the way the games and programs are marketed for the most part. Who do most of the games market to in the PC world? Males age 14-28. This group is heavily marketed since they are about to turn the corner to being males 29-36 and are known as the most economically secure in America.
Meaning, we need a way to just make games cheaper or free and put more marketing in them to lead the soon to be older audience. You can't stop them, so market them.
I know what the thought to that is... Then game quality sucks. Or ends up looking like a NasCar add.
Whole movie production have been paid for with product placements. We even got to see Hallie Berry's chacha's for seeing a product for 25 seconds in movie.
Now I wouldn't product place to sell the product to the people playing the game today, but product place for the people who will be stronger consumers tomorrow.
Mc Donalds did this in the early years and still does it today. They lose money on the playground, happy meals, and birthday parties, but make customers for life.
For these reasons we need to see a paradigm shift and let the entertainment be free, and the quality can be the same.

  7. Alternate Reality Games on On Micropayments In Gaming · · Score: 1

I am a creator of ARG's see http://www.realworldgaming.com/ to see some of the projects in play. While I don't ask for any money from players at the moment I intend to. I can't afford to market my game in stores, the risk involved can make the game flop (see Majestic by EA). But, I plan to take a small amount like $2.99 a month from players interested in playing future games to build my quality and allow for people have affordable gaming. Many time life just gets in the way and what better way than instead of paying $50 for a game than to pay only if you play, and when you play.

The sites are.... http://www.science.uva.nl/cms-forms/ai.php?formuli er=vakkenlijst&session=1&prog=122&fase = (notice the logo looks a little like Immersion Unlimited's site initials) http://thefridgeowl.com/

  11. Re:Sounds familiar... on The Political Games Surrounding Video Games · · Score: 1

I guess that depends on the definition of "Video Game." So many games have already been successful in this accomplishment. The army even created a game to use a recruiting tool. I am a game developer myself. I created www.realworldgaming.com. Right now we are playing a game that has three major topics being discussed. The right to privacy, right to life, and the definitions of terrorism. This game is called AWARE and has almost 1000 players. Then I plan to also release another game called POW Iraq. But I may have too push back the release on that. I am having a herd time assembling a team with something carrying such a heavy politcal message. Any form of Mass Media has the ability to influence. Just most have decided to leave a "hard" message out to be more marketable to the masses.

  12. Re:People are bored on In These Games, the Points Are All Political · · Score: 1

A new compnay on the market is www.realworldgaming.com. Though I don't think they have any political affiliation the theme in the two games they have in production dealing with the issue of terrorism in our world. The person who created the site is a soldier in the Army who came back from Iraq a few months ago. I wonder what Uncle Sam might say if his game gets too far away from the military philosophy of supporting your chain of command. This game is called an ARG much like the EA game "Majestic" that had an unfortunate ending during Sept 11th. This type of interaction can definately make the message ring louder for those listening.
