Um, yeah, well sort of correct. The teaser episode will start before the end of the month. This is a great chance for new ARG players to get involved from a top quality game from the start. I encourgae you to sign up and give it a try!

You can find the site by simply clicking the URL near my name on this post. It is free, and the game is brought to you by a multitude of sponsors. This is great since you will get a few advertisements as product placements, but not get the feeling like you are getting corporate agenda setting for hours while you play. Currently more than 1000 players are already registered, and the more players the more fun for all!

  7. Nice, but not necessary. on A Theory of Fun for Game Design · · Score: 2, Interesting

As a novice game creator I must say that I have yet to read a book and feel I am doing fine thus far. I created http://ruaware.org/ AWARE and even had an article published in the NY Times (nothing on /. I am afraid) as a review in theory. The game I created was successful enough to even warrant a sequel.

I specialize in Alternate Reality Gaming and the games are much more cerebral than most, so when Dave Szulborski wrote "This Is Not A Game" (seen at http://www.immersivegaming.com/) not many had anything to complain about. Our players tend to like an intellectual challenge.

Yet, I can imagine that many 13-15 year old DOOM players may have their head spin when discussing game theory.

Staci: Her tummy is too flat.
Telka: Give her some sagging breasts, some child bearing hips... if it was more life like... I think it'd be more appealing.

More appealing for who? Not me.

Well, women are slowly getting into games. But until they make a larger market share forget any changes. Guys, go buy another game tonight to keep status quo.

  11. Sacrifice Realism for more Realism? on Midway Fine with NFL Split · · Score: 1

This paradigm is cheap and trashy. Who cares if "Joe Player" beats his wife and gets thrown in jail? I would care if Warren Moon did. This is basically a ploy to hold the NFL hostage for their error in judgement. Even if the players don't have real names and the teams are bunk we know what it signifies. That there is something wrong with the NFL. It is a good move and maybe force the NFL to rethink its terrible sell-out we are all going to suffer for. This year Madden had to up the bar because someone else came up with a new product comperable and sold it for $20. With no competition to rattle the sword expect the consumer to be the one who ends up suffering.

Well, then you may remember how a movie came out called AI (Artificial Intelliegence). This was Spielbergs movie. He had a promo for the movie that was called "The Beast". This was the birth of a new kind of gaming. One called Alternate Reality Gaming http://www.argeuro.net/ where the game could call, email and even fax you. How many games break those rules. It didn't even have a graphics engine.

The Beast laid ground for many other ARG's. I even created one. See my link above. And now the Genre has www.ilovebees.com for Halo2.

So why must any company do this? This is like going to buy a car and trying to stay away from cars with a GX on it and only looking for LX.

This reminds me alot of http://www.persuasivegames.com/Persuasive Games. They are working towards the same idea of changing the minds of people playing the games. Video Games are the most immersive Form of Media out there so It is just a matter of time before people started this slant.

I created an Alternate Reality Game called http://www.ruaware.org/AWARE which dealt with the issues of privacy and terrorism. Many people before playing the games had different views than the ideals they ended with. ARG's probably have a REALLY big effect since the game really puts YOU in the action. The stange thing is I saw no mention of ARG's on their site.
