No real news here. What I want is for the "scientists" to stop being lying sacks of shit, the whole "benevolence" thing is bullshit. Scientists used to be able to build their won test equipment. They used to have knowledge and interests outside their fields. Interaction across disciplines was encouraged, at least among legitimate disciplines. Most of what passes for "science" these days is little more than a cult of greed and hypocrisy. And most people are, indeed, too stupid to know the difference.
The solution isn't more lying to the public, the solution is to stop teaching kids how to pass tests and start teaching them how to think, how to create, how to question, and how to actually BE interested. A bored kid grows up to be a stupid, bored adult; one that spends all their time immersed in constant distraction presented as "entertainment". An adult that spends all their working hours just figuring out ways to fuck over everybody else. There's no thrill of learning there, there's no real comprehension of what science is there.
Really, getting tired of the entire two party system, it's clearly a total failure.
The ONLY remedy would be a "None Of The Above" option at the polls.
IF you're truly interested in voter participation, this IS THE ONLY solution.
Repeated cycles of voting for the asshole that's going to do the least amount of damages to your own perceived personal best interests isn't a solution; it's just repetition of something that you know doesn't work. It's insanity.
States that have attempted to initiate this option have both parties constantly preventing it from being initiated - because it's a huge threat to the inherently corrupt and useless two party system, which is essentially a system of people figuring out ways to fuck over the public.
Give the public the option to say "no thanks, your all assholes, we don't trust you, you're corrupt, we want a candidate and a party that isn't sleazy and corrupt", and you'll have some people in the house and Presidency that aren't lying two faced pieces of dog shit.
I hope this guy, who is clearly a douche, was inconvienced, didn't get a refund for the tickets, and got his ass kicked for royally screwing up everyone else's travel plans.

Fast forward 35 years. American culture is disposable, more corporate than ever. The people I work with have no idea how anything works, they have no clue how anything is interrelated. They live their lives, for the most part, oblivious, inept, and arrogant with a degree of over-specialization that is truly obnoxious. They sit around immersed in technology that they THINK they understand, but don't grasp the most basic aspects of - the hardware itself.
Web sites where people play with crude tech that I would have thought childish at 13 abound. The level of self delusion in American culture is palpable.
And don't get me started on the lack of a decent chemistry set. My Chemistry set from the 70's could get me imprisoned for 20+ years now.

People need to be more skeptical of drug trials, the industry would LOVE to further damage criterion and methodologies and disclosure of adverse side effects from the constant stream of dangerous drugs it pumps out.
How many times does the FDA and big pharma have to be caught red handed screwing us over before you start to question the entire corrupt research community ?
