  1. OMG, Who freakin' cares ? on In America, 46% of People Hold a Creationist View of Human Origins · · Score: 1

People believe all sorts of absurd and ridiculous fictions to get through their booing and banal day to day lives.

Too much emphasis is placed on a supposed controversy between the so-called "scientific" and people with almost equally superstitious and cop-out beliefs based on crap that has no practical significance to 99.999% of the population anyway.

Then again, there's something to be said for statistics that make you feel all smug and outraged and superior. There's a value there, but I wouldn't exactly consider it something to strive for.

  2. What's missing in this discussion is why these on Audio Surveillance, Intended to Detect Gunshots, Can Pick Up Much More · · Score: 1

    systems were installed.

One of the very first systems was installed in a neighborhood I lived in for several years in California, which was simply inundated with "undocumented immigrants".

Prior to the installation, gunshots were such a common occurance in this neighborhood, that residents often laid-down on the floor of the homes in fear of stray bullets.

Healthy skepticism is a good thing, however the atypical slashdot knee-jerk reaction to this "news" obfuscates the reality that in places where these systems have been installed are markedly safer neighborhoods now precisely because of them.

It's depressing to see so many paranoid remarks from people that have no idea what they are talking about.

It's BS, and as usual, the media has failed to do a moderately competent job informing douchebags.

Most of what the media report when it comes to any study is utter, unmitigated, horse shit.

I have zero respect for people that are so gullible. You're not sing your opinions on "science", you are not "scientific". You aren't even particularly intelligent.

You're just a bunch of parrots, a bunch of tools. You don't even know you've been mislead, don't care that you've been manipulated, and play your little petty roles in agendas you have not even bothered to consider.

Sickening. Most of these types of declarations to the media by the NIH are bullshit - but YOU don't know it because YOU have "faith" in "science". Without even bothering to be critical or informed.
