Java is an easy to learn, fully cross platform (and by fully, i don't mean pseduofully like most languages, if you code a GUI in Java, you don't need to install stuff like GTK+ to make it work in windows / linux), with a 'one class file fits all' attitude. You don't need to spend time making sure that your code is compatible with every OS that java runs on, you also don't have to waste time compiling for each system, It's fast, complete and as i say, easy to use.
I'm primarily a C++ programmer, but my current occupation requires that I code java most of the time, and to be honest, i don't mind, it's much less of a problem making sure everything doesn't segfault, and with a true OO nature, it's just a joy to use. The only real quibble i have is with the way the Java VM behaves and handles memory.
As far as open sourcing goes, i welcome it, although i doubt it's going to effect anyone really at least for years to come, the only real advantage is that it may (as stated) be shipped 'as default' in some linux distros, which is a good start
Generally yes, coolers, mini stoves and lots of food etc, as far as the queue goes, i'm not entirely sure if Best Buy would obligate you to respect the queue (given that the queue is OUTSIDE the store, and not in), on the other hand, i'm not sure it's wise to piss off a number of fan boys.
My guess is, someone pulled open a phishing site whilst browsing google images, and IE somehow managed to block the address in the address bar, as opposed to the address of the evil frame, thus leaving image drop-in urls all marked as 'phishing'. My guess is someone at MS saw this (be it this specific post, or someone else mentioned it), and rectified the issue.
Please, we've been messing with nature for a long time now. Modern medical science has been keeping many people alive that natural selection would have killed off.
I think i can reasonably safely attribute to some of the current worlds problems to that, ask yourself, if natural selection HAD killed those people off, and we hadn't intevened, would we be having the population issues we have now? Kinda harsh i know, I'm personally all for longer lifespans, but at the end of the day just concider the current "situation" (if you will) as small in comparison to what a global longer lifespan could cause.
We currently live in a world which is becomming overcroweded, yet birthrates are not going down, and due to "Free Will", they probably wont. If you extend the average lifespan of a human, even if only by a few years, it's going to cause more problems than solve.
If you're going to start extending lifespans, the issues of homelessness and cramped / crowded cities need to be addressed first as well as accomodation to accomodate for the sudden decrease in death rates. Eventually, yes, everything will level out again when people begin to start dying again, but during the time from start to end, the worlds population will increase by a LARGE percentage, which will undoubtedly eventually come back to bite us in the ass.
Don't mess with nature, these things happen for a reason.
I for one welcome our new Artificial Overlords..
Either way, i'm reasonably sure there would be have to be some way to make the AI work in the event you don't have a card (or your slot is already occupied by a PhysX card), but given the apparently "power" of this card, i think it will be difficult. Performing things like real-time path finding during a high processor game just isn't plausable. And if they DO manage it, "Why should i pay $200 for this card when it'll work without it"
As useful as this idea may sound, any 'underlying' problem would be the responsibility of a third party.
In a lot of schools in the UK, all network management software, as well as a lot of machines are licenced to a company known as 'RM' (Research Machines), because of this, any holes / floors in techniques would have to be dealt with by them, because there's very little the sysadmins could actually DO about the issue.
A looong time ago whilst i was in school, i was 'caught' compromising the restrictions (if you manage it, don't tell your friends.. bastards..), i was escorted to the sysadmins office, and told to show him how i did it.. after showing him, he said 'There's nothing i can do about that.. but you shouldn't be doing it.' smacked wrist, off you go.
Google isn't just a search engine anymore, they have moved into so many other areas it's going to be almost impossible for any one search engine which is soley a search engine to compete in any way, and if they branch into the same areas then the argument 'Google did that first' will come out.
If anyone wants to be any threat to google at this point, they will have to do something completly original, and get a large market because of it.
I'm assuming that this is an attempt at a (not so) quick fix to our current problems here on earth, Its like a disk failure, you take a backup of your 'base' system, and place it on a new HD, and hope to god it boots.
Turning Mars into a 'New Earth' may be plausable, but it just gives people an excuse to run away from our current problems. Which really doesnt help, Earth will become Mars, and Mars will become earth, when we can afford to transfer the entire population of Earth. We are dying here, and killing the place we live. Attempting a (Not So) 'Quick Fix' isnt gonna stop us from destroying Mars like we did earth. And what happens our new Mars Atmosphere collapses? then we are extinct. Its as simple as that. We may have originated from Mars, but we, well at least me, are happy with this planet, The money put into this project would probably just about fix up all earths problems.
Ok, i blame my blindness on you. I've not been in the sun for weeks.. AND NOW LOOK AT ME!
And now, back to the matter at hand.
Nulcear fusion is possible. have a nice day:)

Of course there's a 2.. 2) Profit!

It's completly true.. Install Ubuntu, wine + Windows Solitaire (aah, the irony..), and most office workers wouldn't know the difference..

Well, i personally havn't had any problems with the sony battery in my laptdjsaDASDJAShd NO CARRIER
Now we just wait for software which will unfreeze a machine when you hit it severly with a large hammer..
And with that in mind.. now all we are missing is the traditional 'I bow to our new homeless internet-using overlords' gag..
Before long, not only will we have real dogs keeping us awake at night.. but robotic ones too

THIS THING KILLS MS ANTI-SPYWARE (oh, btw, it logs key presses too.. kthxbye)
