not really, with sql replication, our 100Mb network used to be saturated until we upgraded it to 1000Mb. well, I have 5 computers at home and I complain about the slowliness of 100Mb at home even there's no confliction when I copy file from one machine to another. in beijing, there are 100Mb network in many buildings (including old resident buildings) and they charge from 20USD-50USD/month for it. only if some one would hire me for US salary and send me to work in beijing.
I only tried it in the store, it has the metro prime DS demo. I found it very hard to control. direction pad and 4 buttons on the right are all for Forward/Backward/Left Strafe/Right Strafe, what ever hand/finger I decide to use for aiming, I can hardly hold the unit, not to mention using the left/right side button for fire. it looks decent, guess it's not for FPS yet, I think it needs a little tweaking on the control part, I'd rather use direction pad as movement and buttons on right as aiming. but that's just me.
well, I dont think it's really 10 times, current PC CPUs have quite a few pipeline per core already, not to mention hyperthreading and dual core techonology that's coming next year.
I seriously doubt this 10 core hype is going to live up to its claim. IBM failed on the RISC claim already, which is still way slower than fastest CISC CPUs in PCs.
1. it's not a few bucks cheaper, it's a hell lot cheaper for pc 2. I dont see anything that's not running smoothly and my school mac os x photoshop doesnot continue the import picture job when I switch from it to other task since it takes too long, that's not smooth.
I remember there were cases about cellphones causing brain tumor in england. also there are people mentioning living close to high voltage electric tower causing 80% of new born baby girls. I wonder if this cellphone and all the computer radiation etc will cause a large portion of new born population female. that will be a huge problem in future.
I have tried the open alpha and one closed beta for guildwars.com, it's pretty good but I am still debating whether I will buy the actual game when it's out next feburary. there are so many beta tests that's almost exactly the same as the released game you can try, why pay for it when you can just try them for free?
I know it's very addictive for many people to play everquest II and other MMORPG, but I dont have enough time just to play one game. I bought Half-life2 and I have xbox/ps2, there are so many nice single player games I'd like to play.
I wonder if they can let people pay by hour, instead of pay by month, since I might not devote enough time per month to justify the cost but I'd like to pay the amount I use.:D
I only have the activation code from my radeon 9600 bundle purchase, then I installed steam and have it downloaded, input the activation code to get those games "unlocked" for me. well, no CD/DVD is either involved at this process.
I wonder if those who purchased the CD/DVD can do the same, that's to install it online then input the code, instead of installing it from disc... and I dont think you really need the disc..
on the other hand, if some one created a keygen and it happens to be the activation code I am using, I am screwed and I dont know what happens if I upgrade my PC, will I be allowed to activate the game on the new machine?
are you kidding me? remote desktop is more like technology from centrix, vnc is just slow, unusable comparing to remote desktop...
spotlight kind of desktop is new just for some people who dont know much about PC and very eager to ask their boss to search all the pictures on their machines.
there was an article in M$ blog about the history of word and how it took over, which was mentioned on slashdot a while ago, that told us how WP lost it.
nobody cares about a9.com? beside the 1.7% discount from amazon.com when you use a9.com, I like the interface and results so far, though I barely use it.
same as the presidential election, all those who didnot get your help to install firefox still make IE way ahead in popular vote and eletion vote, sad but true.
one thing bad for power edge servers in a cluster is that they are not rack mounted. you probably dont want 1000 machines to be in a room, stacked up. believe me, we had a server cluster like that and we hated it. on the other hand, that price is unbeatable.
[geeks should put science before faith, rationality before belief. I just spent my moderator point down rate those flamebait and troll from mac/linux fans, it's normal I got flame back from them]
of course that's just for one node, did I say it's a cluster? but each Mac node will definitely cost a hell lot more. well, mac fans cant be mac fans if they check the price, right? I said cleary in my previous post that's dell's clerance for 400sc, before they get out 420sc. yeah, refurb stuff is not as cheap, amazing? that's called a deal... only for PC users.:D
is bluetooth cheap? now we have wifi, which comes FAR from time to time. so far bluetooth is slower, shorter range and more expensive than wifi. why doesnot IBM give up its poor implemented good idea to wifi?
a PC cluster will definitely the cheapest solution, think about this, my p4 2.8G HT dell 400SC from dell's clearance for 400SC is $124+tax AR, if you get 1000 of these, no mac or other vendor can beat the performance/price ratio, btw, mac's price is always pretty high comparing to other vendors, any way, and performance is far lower than its claim.
we did some tests before, mac's website posted comparision between its G5 and P4 is merely cheating, (optimized G5 score versus way slower than unoptimized p4 score).
I tried guild wars recently, the alpha test event and beta test event. it's free and I didnot notice much problem, just a little lagging. guild wars looks as good as wow, when eq2 requires a lot GPU/CPU power to run, guild wars can run smoothly with middle range machines.
I dont know why people want to mmorpg, you paid for the game, then you had to pay monthly fee, worst of all, they upgrade the game so you have to pay for it again instead of just got your game upgrade for free.

you dont think very unbalanced male:female ratio is a social problem?

even unreal back to 1998 looks better than metroid prime on gamecube to me...
have you watched the recent southpark about walmart? it mentioned the idea about "boyscott" walmart.

I was in iowa, I love that place!!! comparing to iowa, indiana is not suburb...

netmeeting, yahoo messenger, so many free stuff have offered this for free FOR MANY YEARS.
I upgrade when there's a deal
is it cheaper than those free after rebate wifi devices?
there has been SDIO wifi card for long times...
I am pretty sure this wont be. :)
on the other hand, how's amazon's a9 comparing to google?

doing the exact benchmark Mac claimed on their false comparison between Mac cpu and p4.
