I would also expect them to produce warning messages when you do a google search like "warning you are attempting a search from a web site that has not been verified to work with the microsoft indexing engine, click here to conduct this search on MSN".

2) Write for unix. That way at a minimum your application can be complied on every linux distro, freebsd and mac os X. Now that MS is shipping SFU maybe your app will work in windows too in a crappy-not-everything-works-yet kind of way.
Novell is a good choice because in addition to service they offer some awesome add ons like eDirectory, Ifolder and groupwise. I noticed they open sourced a "light" version of ifolder too, good for them.

OK guru, tell me how to build my application without expiring my session. Tell me how to make VS.NET not suck up all the memory on my system, tell me how to make ASP.NET work without the constant build cycle.
This happened to me. For many years I worked on a PHP web site. My setup went like this.
Apache server with a virtual host to my home directory. Mount home directory via samba to my windows workstation. SSH into apache machine for cvs access and other tools like grep Jedit for development.
Now I work like this.
ASP.NET using visual studio. IIS running on local machine.
I can't tell you how less productive I am using ASP.NET. It's mind boggling really. First of all visual studio is a pig, it sucks up virtually all the ram on my machine, just opening projects takes ten times longer then it took opening up jedit. Secondly the build cycle is insane. Not only does it take a long time build this site (probably thanks to crystal reports) but building also expires your session so you have constantly log back in and navigate to the page you were working on. Just making even minor changes and seeing the result turns into a painful experience like swimming in molasses. I guess I don't also need to rell you guys that sourcesafe and Crystal reports sucks ass do I?.

Work to get rid of winner take all elections. The winner take all procedure gives you the lesser of the two evils choices you have now. Get something like instant runoff going in your state, country, city, or community.
If Google gets students hooked on open source they deny talent to MS. MS has publicly stated that they intend to kill google (and the CEO of google was named explicitly). I think this makes perfect long term sense for shareholders. MS is going to Kill google unless google does something to stop them.

All you have to do is to educate the user. Just tell them that they are complaining to the wrong people and point them in the direction of the company that makes the hardware. Maybe if the complaints went to the hardware manufacturer they would make drivers themselves.
If a user leaves linux because there is no driver let's at least make sure he/she understands who is at fault.
