    I believe 4% of the population has cell phones but not a land line. That's a pretty big number when the lection is so close.

    I would think that a younger geekier crowd would trend towards kerry but will they even bother to vote when the time comes. Remember when Dean was going to win because so many young people were visiting his web site? Well none of them showed up to vote and kerry got the nomination.

    Actually we also know that several prisoners died from beatings in Afghanistan while in US custody. Some others were tortured and killed by other Americans but nobody seems to know their relation to the US govt for sure. They claim they were under govt orders but the govt is denying it. Makes you wonder why somebody would get off their ass one day, go to afghanistan, set up a prison, capture people, torture them and kill a couple just for fun though.

    Hitler provided walls and a roof for his prisoners. Bush puts them in chain link cages (in cuba). We don't really know what happens in Aghanistan, quatar, pakistan or elsewhere to the prisoners.

    You know I started thinking about what you said and something occured to me.

    If reading slashdot is any indication there are an awful lot of companies in the US making decisions based of really stupid and irrational criterea. I have heard many times "we didn't go with X because there was nobody to blame" and "we didn't go with Y because SCO might sue us" type of totally idiotic reasons. Why is that? Is Harvard business school or joe blow MBA mill really producing management that is unable to assess risk and intelligently apply reason to their decision making process? Think about it.

    I wonder if this is some sort of an American thing. Are people in Europe and Asia making decisions like this? If not we are about to get our assess kicked awfully hard.

    Your economics are all wrong.

    What happens to you.
    You spend money and time to create a software product. It becomes popular and you make some profit. MS makes a competing product and integrates it into the OS or sells it for half the price. You go bankrupt soon after.

    Parralell track.
    People like your program but they don't want to pay you or MS. They create an open source competing product pretty quickly by assembling other projects together. It's not as good as yours but it's free. This too takes away from your sales and you go bankrupt.

    After you go bankrupt you open source your product because you don't want to strand your customers and because you want to go out while giving the middle finger to MS.

    Those are not the only options on the table are they? For example they can lobby the US to force Brazil to use MS software in exchange for a trade agreement. Of course it's not like the US govt has been above sponsoring and supporting murder and mayhem in south america anyway. I have no doubt that if less coersive methods didn't work there would be roaming paramilitaries assembled in a hurry.

    It's possible to have companies without having corporations. It's possible to have corporations that are structured differently. It's possible to hold corporations accountable for their actions. It's possible to have a govt that is not wholly owned by corporations.

    There is a difference between looking bad on the camera and stating a flat our lie 10 times on TV. He didn't look bad he was either lying or confused.
