    It sure sounds like you an idiot. You are comparing how long it takes to install something vs how long it takes to install something else PLUS applying all the patches over a cable modem.

    It also sounds like you are comparing how to install debian with dselect of all the fucking things to installing XP. Debian is not for beginners. Why didn't you just get a FC, Suse, xandros or lindows ISO and install that instead? That's like picking up a rocket launcher and then complaining that you shot yourself.

    If you are going to install linux and you are a newbie (which you obviously are) just get a distro made for newbies. Why is that so difficult for people to understand. There are distros for every level of user and debian is NOT for you.

    It is for people like me however. I can install debian and customize it to my needs very quickly. Once you get good at this stuff it's amazing.

    It'a a pretty common strategy. Intelligence agencies do it all the time. You plant a few shills to fan the flames and to goad people into acting out.

    MS has done this brilliantly on online forums (and yes here too) and there is no reason to think they haven't done it with actors too.

    MS sees this as a religious war. MS is kind of a cult like arganization anyway so it fits right in with their mindset.

    They simply believe that a centrally controlled communist type of a system is superior to the free market of OSS development.

    They confuse XP style development with not having any structure at all. They are baffled by the fact that people can form ad-hoc teams, co-operate, plan and produce quality code without some top level authority telling them what to do.

    Welcome to vendor lock. That's exactly the way MS wanted it to be. Congratulations you are unable to switch to a lower cost alternative!.

    Novell has NDS, it's probably the best system for managing huge networks and it runs on linux. If you are thinking about converting over to linux then they can give you linux for free and sell you NDS (and groupwise too while they are at it).

    I said he used the most unethical and slimy business tactics and I stand by them. He repreatedly broke the law, he signed contracts with sendo and stac and then STOLE their technologies and customers. He poached employees and technologies off of borland, he stole shit from corel.

    He has been sued and settled for hunreds of millions of dollars for those things but to him that was just the cost of doing business.

    Lying, cheating, stealing is how he made his money. Maybe he didn't actually kill anybody (I don't know) but that does not give him a pass in my book.

    It's not raw cash. Bill Gates transfers stock from his name to the foundation. The foundation sells the stock and then gives away the cash. Since that stock didn't cost bill gates any money to him it's all zero cost.
