It's a good thing we're investing billions in Digital converter boxes that cable companies already make avaiable to customers for $2-$5 a month. Last I checked, it was a TOTAL loss sinking money into that whole Social Security thing, and that Medicare thing? Old people. Pfft. And college grants? Don't get me started, those banks are sooo losing big time since the huge cutback in student loans.
The reason people like products released as Betas, is because it's the most honest software companies ever get about their products. It's pretty much as simple as that; Beta implies under-constant-improvement, and even I as a consumer don't mind imperfect software, as long as the company will at least advise me it's been released in Beta - under construction.
I myself have considered abandoning the tech industry at times. Tech jobs are hard to come by in the midwest, this isn't Silicon valley. If anyone needs a qualified network engineer, by all means let me know, but for now I'll be hanging onto my mid-level tech support job because its all there is here. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a user to go tell to reboot. =(
So you'll be looking for a game that's not coming.
I can't find the link anywhere, but I recently read an interview that stated that Cryptic has slated CoH and CoV to have PVP instances and areas, but the two games won't be 'merging' persay.
"If you quit City of Heroes months ago because you were tired of instance, instance, rinse, repeat, City of Villains may offer you some fleeting fun because of the new setting but probably won't hold your interest over time."
That's most unfortunate. I loved City of Heroes, was in the Beta for a week or two before it was released, and played it from release in several different classes. Mostly I'd reach a travel power, and group with friends from the Super Group, but ultimately what drove me to cancel was the lack of variety in quests. I value my game dollars, and full anticipated buying CoV even after cancelling my CoH account, but I probably won't now. I can't reason myself into buying a game that suffers the same lack of longevity as it's predecessor.
Now when I finish my Newest Investion Ever(TM) - the 5-Terabyte storage method, that can be mass-produced and then easily distributed, you can actually start getting companies to adopt your content! =D
On a more serious note, this isn't making HDTV obsolete by any means - HDTV is just getting started, and can barely squeeze into broadcasters budgets. Since when will we ever live to see terabit fiberoptic connections to our homes, to carry multiple channels of this?
HL2 ran fine at 800x600 a year ago on a $200 build I made with a AMD Athlon 2500+ Barton, and 512meg DDR333, with a Geforce5700LE.
A benefit that's not been discussed so far is that all the Intel or AMD backers that run out, buying handfuls of whichever their preference, rapidly decrease the price of technology that's not absolutely brand new.
AMD's M2 release in the spring will drop the AMD X2's in price, and the s939 single-core 64bit processors even lower. Wait until you can secure yourself true 64bit goodness for less than $200. Right now it's hovering around that mark, just above it. When it dips we all profit.
If you suddenly had a better alternative to paying $45 a month for your cable or DSL internet, you'd take the alternative. Instantly. I know I would, without second thought. There's just nowhere downhill to go, without going back to dialup.
That means the existing monopoly corporation providing broadband to you would suddenly have to invest major capital into revamping their business to approach a competitive edge with this new alternative that everyone smart like you and I would switch to immediately. This would cut into profits. Businessmen like their profits, so they look for an alternative, hmmm, how not to have to revamp their networks, think think think...
So the company instead pays out campaign donations the right people in senate and congress, hires some lobbyists to naysay revamping impractical and backwards laws, say if they do change the laws the terrorists will get us over the intrawebs on their haxxor boxenz and copyrighted material will be given away on the street corners. And the people of the country that invented and played a major part in developing the internet into what it is today, lose out to nations with 1/100th of the population and GNP.
God Bless America. What would Liberty be like without a caring, guiding corporate hand to slow things down to maximize their own profits? I rarely rant on like things about this, but let's face it; American broadband users are sheer cash cows to their ISP's.
I agree with this point - an equally-priced Dell PC will include a monitor, no less.
I can see AMD's reasoning though - they have to push this to market and make whatever they can off it as quickly as possible - MIT is fast on the road to their $100 laptops that include a screen and a hand-crank for cryin' out loud.
Heck, for an even smaller size, one could spend another $100 or so and get an Apple Mac Mini, and a.) have better componants, and b.) not have to suffer the Windows. If you're not going to game, at least buy a nice Unix-based OS for stability.
I appluad AMD for the effort, but it's about 2 years too late. The niche in the market has major contenders in with better products, and some that will arrive soon that are even better than what's available, while AMD is just dragging in a low-end box.
Not to be frightening, but since the government there is filtering out words and they have to use 1337, it'd look more like this:

And then a revolution takes place on DE_Dust in Counter-Strike.
However, I see mucho problemos in this sites future. In short, I'll summarize them all into 4 letters:

Isn't it funny that my case has windows, now my hard drives will have windows, but not contained within either is Windows®?

Isn't technically white the absence of color, though? :P
He's a happy, idea-patented RICH inventor. ;)
That being said, this is EXCELLENT. Imagine possibilities like clothing that changes color depending on the soap you wash it with.

Now, people who post demeaning and sweeping generalizations on the internet...

Actually, there is a clear-cut leader: AMD - why? Because they're not Intel. =P

(Totally kidding!!)
640K ought to be enough for anybody.
In short, run Forrest, run!

This is the single most terrifying news I've heard all week. I'd almost... no, I WOULD prefer an asteroid the size of Texas hurdling at the Earth.
At any rate, my bet is that Apple didn't run their prototypes over with cars. Or did they??
Just one tip:
Needs more Caffeine.
