Let's just say there's this guy named Bob. Now, Bob has a couple of computers at his office. Some are almost modern: Pentium IIIs that originally had Win2k installed, but someone wiped 2000 and installed WinME. His receptionist's computer had an XP 1700+ with some Crucial memory... on a PC Chips board. His personal computer, in his office, was a Dell PII-266 with 64MB of RAM, running WinME. He claims that this computer is the "best in the office" because it mostly crashes when he's not using it, while it's just running the screensaver. He refuses to fix the receptionist's machine after the PC Chips board died, because he doesn't want to spend the $60 on a decent replacement board. This is the worst part of my job. Fixing other people's mistakes that were likely made simply because the boss was cheap and stupid.
Someone removing Win2k and installing ME was the tops, though. Heh.
The article states that eventually we might see this being used for internal injuries, ie. the lungs or spleen. However, this is not something we need in the future, we need it now. Bullets don't just stop with the top few layers of dermis, they penetrate and cause nasty bodily injury to organs or whatever else may be in the path of the round. This is what costs lives, not Ye Olde Flesh Wound. The "through and through" shots are not the ones where people bleed out, unless a large bloodpath is nicked. This might also be useful in a size somewhat larger than four by four inches. I'm sure there will continue to be advances, I just have a feeling the production costs are rather prohibitive since they're wanting $100 per application. Unfortunately, bullets are much cheaper.
no offense but that has got to be one of the geekiest things I have EVER read...thinking about making it my sig:)
Fame is fleeting... infamy lasts forever.
In all seriousness, I probably had a lot more fun *not* being DM when I played simply because there was so much effort involved with running a successful campaign. Of course, success is relative... simply not allowing the players to become bored is probably considered a success. The music was usually ignored during my campaigns, mainly because I tried to involve the players more than the DMs that I had been around prior to trying my own hand at the role. I just chose to set a proper mood, I guess.
As an aside, I've not looked at a DMG or any AD&D stuff in a decade, even though I still have a ton of 2E books on the shelves...
How about the apparently overwhelming popularity of the "Guide to Posting Inane, Unfunny, and Downright Mean AC Comments"
(even if they are true)
not really, though. many nerds grow up to at least have sex with other nerds. some even get lucky and have sex with very attractive people
(and not have to pay for it... nice try, dude.)
Weezer? I always played the Conan the Barbarian soundtrack, or maybe Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves or maybe some Enya... although the latter sometimes causes the lower-level players to succumb as though a Sleep spell had been cast.
With nVidia's SLI, sure you need 2 expensive and matching cards to work, but that is it, you don't need any specialized motherboards.
I hate to be the one to burst your bubble, but whether you realise it or not SLI itself is a "specialized" motherboard requirement. So-called "normal" motherboards come with a single slot for either AGP or PCIx solution. SLI itself is still considered "special", at least to those who feel the need to swap to an SLI-based motherboard an unnecessary expense.
The army has been using this technology in its rations for a loooong time now.
Christ, I've been *out* of the Army since 1990, and we didn't have that technology built into our MREs, so please don't put such an emphasis on the "long" part. I'm getting old, but don't push it.
Since you're wanting an archive that will age well, may I suggest engraved/embossed titanium plates? Simply carve all of your pertinent ones and zeros onto the plates which are specially fabricated for that purpose. I'd say at least a few mm thick, and any size you want. Hell, size apparently isn't the issue, it's longevity of storage... and baby, have I got your shelf life right here. For extra-long-term solutions, invest in a vast underground bunker to store your porn^H^H^H^Hpaleological studies. You didn't mention whether cost was an issue, so I took the well-heeled route.
A blond newlywed was enjoying her honeymoon by staring at the night sky from a Hawaiian mountaintop with her newly betrothed. At one point he asked her which is closer, Texas or the moon.
She thought about it for a moment and then her eyes glittered with a knowing look.
She glanced around dramatically and replied, "Duuuh! Do you *see* Texas?"

This joke is intended as humor, no offense to any blondes out there, real or implied.
No blondes were harmed during the creation of this joke.

Kenny Fuckin' G?
Did you ditch the sax and go all hardcore on us? What other reason for fear is there?
Mod parent insightful.

I do truly miss Second Edition AD&D.
*sigh*

If I were facing a zombie and I had a shotgun, I'd just shoot his bloody legs off and run away bravely.
Sir Robin?

I think you just killed everyone in your family.
"Hi Honey, look what I bought you today!"
Save yourself a few thousand and just buy her a white robe-looking dress and slap a couple of cinnamon rolls on her head.
that's what I'd call "distributed computing"
I forgot to mention that as a hard-core game-playing individual Windows XP is currently the *only* way to go.
It can be done. Much of the time, my job entails doing just that. It's just that it is more trouble and expense than it's worth.

As they travel further into the Sun's radial positive electric field, they discharge into space, expelling material at supersonic speed.
Isn't the comet already traveling at some ridiculous rate? Supersonic? or maybe was it ludicrous speed?
Why? Would you still eat it as long as the toast landed butter/jam side up? Does this have something to do with the three second rule?
Did you guys realise that if Prince Charles got really fat, his big ears would give his head the appearance of a Tie-Fighter. Darth Chuck.

I miss the days when the only people who were afraid of piracy were those on the water.
At first glance I read "Swapless P2P Exploit Released" and I couldn't help but think that with nothing to swap, would there be any users to exploit?
"I can't imagine what they must look like in a Martian night."
very cold.
...which government agency did you say you worked for again?
I thought make was hardware-independent. heheh.
